Card of Dog Process

Have any of the CWU brothers and sisters came across a process called "Card of Dog Process" has it something to do with the WRAP process in which all dogs that are on a given delivery round are recorded on WRAP and then given a suitable risk assessment as to their potential for causing harm to the delivery postman / woman.

Obliged that if anyone who knows can fill me in on it.

how do you assess the dogs potential for causing harm ?

All dogs are on a duty are categorised by
Breed/location on property/level of aggression/history of attack
The info is entered onto an excel spreadsheet and generates a s
"Score" with numbers and a kind of traffic light system of danger for the duty.

Its great for helping fill in the wrap but where it fails is that there tends to be one a4 sheet tacked to a frame.
I keep asking for something to be made available to us when on the street.

Guessed the good thing is it could help in a case against an owner re.history of attack,bit on the other hand if its on the frame can we have been expected to know about it prior to delivery?

The idea is that the reserve/cover doing the duty - checks the list and then mark the address on the letters with either a "D" or a paw sticker similar to this The sheets of the stickers should be available from the manager/dom support.

If I was cycical I'd suggest it was a cya exercise to avoid a claim...

My partner today walked down a guy's drive, and the garage was open - he nearly got to the door when a large snarling brown dog approached him . he darted back out to pavement and the dog stopped, owner appeared just sniggered, no "he's OK/won't hurt you/sorry" etc. Partner just walked off with the post and didn't deliver as dog was still there. See how funny the bloke thinks it is when he collects his own mail the rest of this week, and gets a DOM visit. Firkin hate ignorant tw@ts like that.

I had the sheets at one point but didn't see any cwu ltbs on it,the stuff I had was all royal mail headed,
Our union safety rep still inputs it from time to time.

It's nearly 300 days without a single dog incident at Cardiff North delivery office, thanks to a new dog risk matrix compiled by staff.

They've used the World Class Mail programme, which encourages staff to come up with improvements to how they work.

All 121 postmen and women filled in a questionnaire, then every single address on every walk was risk-assessed.

Postman Nick Cotton says: ‘Each house gets a score according to factors such as whether there's a dog, how many, what breed, how they behave and any previous incidents.'

All the scores are compiled into a chart showing where each dog lives, and every walk given an overall risk rating.

Nick adds: ‘The matrix is a great idea, particularly for people covering a walk they're not used to.'
Nationally, all walks are assessed in delivery offices as part of WRAP – the electronic Walk Risk Assessment Platform (WRAP), and dangerous dogs added to the walk log.

The work the Cardiff North team has done takes this one step further.

Their case study has been passed to the dog attack working group that's looking at continuously improving the measures we have in place.
