This is called "disappearing up your own arse due to the lack of staff". Same in our office only they've ditched the portering completely. Far too many hours being taken out of offices and no way of getting done unless you cut corners, drastically. All supported by the union. Roll on Christmas.Patti-Ann wrote:Update![]()
I am still portering, but letter/large flat sorting too (now on the same frame). When the pigeon holes are filling up, I clear them down, then back onto sorting. Meanwhile my prep is done for me. One man preps his two walks plus one of mine. Another preps his walks plus my other one. When the sorting is all done, I clear down for the last time then take over on the walk prep.
I'm now on my week off - go back Thursday for three days, then on two weeks holiday

Not too heavy. Whizzed round as there were rather black looking rain clouds on the horizon, and was feeling rather thundery. Rain started just as I was driving home!
Saw a few interesting sights while out on delivery too, a Scalloped Hazel moth on a customers door, and a male house sparrow carrying some nesting material!

Wet. Can't complain though, as it's been my first wet shift since starting 7 weeks ago!

There's plenty more where that came from so get prepared to be totally soaked through and attempt to push soggy mail through letterboxes and write out your 739's in the pouring rain because you can guarantee it will happen to you... oh the joy of it all!greengiant wrote:Wet. What is the best way to prep mail if it is forecast to be wet? Loads of wee mini bundles?wabbithunta wrote:There's plenty more where that came from so get prepared to be totally soaked through and attempt to push soggy mail through letterboxes and write out your 739's in the pouring rain because you can guarantee it will happen to you... oh the joy of it all!greengiant wrote:Wet. Try to prep every bundle so there's a plastic-covered flat on the back of it. It stops the last letter from being a load of mush from your wet sleeve when you get to it, I can also flip the bundle over and walk along with it mostly waterproofed if there's an absolute downpour, or use it to whack overhanging soggy foliage head-height at a gate. Wouldn't recommend smaller bundles as every time you open the bag to get another one out more rain will get in there.greengiant wrote: What is the best way to prep mail if it is forecast to be wet? Yes - although if you have a large/A4 size flat at the back end of the delivery use that to protect the bundles - don't forget to mark/remember the address the flat is due for.greengiant wrote:What is the best way to prep mail if it is forecast to be wet? Also it's even better if it's a plastic wrapped item as well. I find that smaller bundles are better in foul weather, easier to handle and less mail possibly turning to "mush". You could also use D-2-D's, if they're large enough, as protection too.TrueBlueTerrier wrote:Yes - although if you have a large/A4 size flat at the back end of the delivery use that to protect the bundles - don't forget to mark/remember the address the flat is due for.greengiant wrote:What is the best way to prep mail if it is forecast to be wet? Quite quiet today for a Thursday. Lots of gaps here but massive bulky mags for the calls I had. Was in a job and knock office luckily so got home 40 mins before my mail was delivered! That's always a good feeling!
