It won't feel fair to anyone whose duty is picked,we all recognise that, but someones has to be. The best way to handle the situation is try and look at it dispassionately and not from a personal viewpoint. If you do that in an honest way and still think its unfair then you can ask the managers/reps to look at it again because you may be right, there may well be a better duty to lapse than yours, only you and your office can judge its fairness we certainly can't. However, I'll be honest that chances of changing minds is slim in the extreme.
Ok thanks for advice. I keep trying to tell myself a change is as good as a rest.
I believe if you are removed from your duty for summer efficiency you are entitled to a pick of any vacant duties in your office

Rubbish ones are vacant at ours. If all jobs were equal there would not be a problem.

Maybe better being spare during the summer you might pick up some of the better duties when your workmates are on holiday

From what i've been told in my office via a poorly informed Union rep, we are going down a similar route of lapsing duties closest to the office.

Problem is the women on one of these duties used to run the RLE for over 10 years. She's been told that on Mondays and Tuesdays she will be back running the RLE.

Now she's not happy about it as she was more than happy to get back out on delivery, on a HCT duty.

I'm not happy because i've been doing the RLE duty for about 3 years now and am happy to continue.

Apparently (according to other posts) if your taken off your regular duty for summer resourcing then you can pick from any available vacant duties. The problem there is that the decent duties are the ones being lapsed.

There has been no WTL about anything to do with summer resourcing and yet we are supposed to start it Monday (will never happen).
I'm starting to think our DOM may just shove it under the carpet and make out to the powers that be, that we are lapsing duties, but keep things as they are.

But if he does take me off my RLE duty and put me on delivery, do i have any course of action, or do i just have to accept it?
Don't get me wrong i have no objection to doing a delivery - my existing RLE duty includes a 90 minute delivery as it is.
I object to being taken off my duty for 2 days a week or more as required.

Lapsing is about making use of OPG within contract hours after they have completed their duty. If you are certain you will not have spare time at the end, say so and don't take. If it is borderline, take the lapsing bit but ensure your lino knows it is borderline and so some mail may need to come back to the depot (or you will need o/t to complete).

Resourcing to Workload would assume there is an ongoing plan to actually resource to workload as opposed to just lapsing the same 5 duties for the duration of the summer. Now tell me that it is not about saving because it's absolutely feck all to do with workload and the union come out with a verbose LTB that owes nothing to the actuality. Then they come out with the "if you haven't time don't take it" and that opens the door to part timers consistently going over their contractual hours and bullying and harassment to people who admit to problems completing.

Hi all,
Can I still be made to go out lapsing if the duty is 2 miles away and I only ride a scooter? Most time I have no space for parcels and have to put a bag on my back to get there, sometimes I'm wearing my helmet while delivering and have no where to but my protective jacket and I wear that also.
My manager seem to not consider this or help work something out reasonable and leaves it to the last minute to grab me before I go home.

any advice would be welcome.

You are winding us up surely, you should not be using a scooter to deliver mail - see your rep, this is totally against all current agreements.

Yes - if you can get there do the delivery and get back within your duty time then its a reasonable request.
