Your share in our success

The overwhelming majority of our UK employees are also shareholders in Royal Mail

Free Shares gave our people a direct stake in the company and its future success.

Dividend payment in July 2014

Subject to shareholder approval at the Company’s Annual General Meeting on 24 July 2014, eligible full-time employees, who have received the full allocation of 729 Free Shares, will receive a dividend of around £96 (before National Insurance and tax).

Eligible part-time employees will also receive a dividend reflecting their pro-rata allocation of Free Shares.

The after-tax amount will be paid directly into bank accounts on 31 July 2014.

Dividends explained

A dividend is a portion of a company’s profits that it pays to its shareholders. You will receive more information on dividends shortly.

Our Board will decide when and how often we will pay them to shareholders, and how much these dividends will be. This will depend on many things, including our company’s performance and future investment plans.

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

ALL workers can vote for Moya to go also. I submit the removal of Moya at the AGM. NO payoff no shares nothing. Dismissal for incompetence. Failing this it should be a part of HYS next year.
Moya Greene to be sent packing?

If you pay tax at the basic rate (which those of us not on mega-salaries, like Moya is):
You have no tax to pay on your dividend income because the tax liability is 10% - the same amount as the tax credit

I was under the impression that there is no National Insurance payable on a dividend payment to a shareholder although I am struggling to find a bona fide website to prove it. There is no N.I. payable on pensionable income and I believe the dividend receipt falls into the same category.

I have just found the following which is an extract from page 26 of the Guide to the Royal Mail Employee Share Offers :-

Will I have to pay income tax on any dividends I receive?

Dividends are taxable income. How much income tax you have to pay will depend on your personal tax status. All dividends (whether the shares they relate to are held in the SIP, or
held in the Royal Mail Nominee Share Service or in your name on the ordinary shareholder register) are received with the benefit of a tax credit. This means that if you are a basic-rate taxpayer or pay no tax, you will have no further tax to pay on the dividends. Otherwise, you will have to pay extra tax under self-assessment.

This clearly states the income tax position but makes no reference to national insurance - shareholders who are not in the employee scheme would pay no national insurance on a dividend and there is therefore no reason why an employee should pay it. I think the Royal Mail website from which this post originated is wrong to advise that N.I.is payable and I have just emailed HMRC to ask for their view. True Blue's links to the HMRC reaffirm the income tax position but not the N.I. on dividend receipts.

Tax on dividends, some say we do not pay, we will, why, most of us will spend that money, not out of greed but need, VAT is 20% and if you purchases are from a small business then part of the cost will go in business taxation. Only the multi national companies get away with non taxation, is it true RM are going to share their new headquarters with their CWU partners next door to Amazon European Headquarters
