Re: Summer Resourcing – Resourcing to Workload LTB
how lovely to have your everymove everyday tracked by a pda by your dom, it must be so great to have to work with that pressure everyday! Anyone tracking the amount of free work given to the company everyday? no breaks, mega early starters, going over time & not booking it?dingo wrote:There have been joint visits to all the 20 offices and some were using the full equipment and some not and obviously will now have a plan to do so.

If you're doing the job properly it shouldn't make any difference but if you're cutting corners and finishing early you'll only have yourself to blame when they give you more workload.

Re: Summer Resourcing – Resourcing to Workload LTB
If the cap fits dingo, wear it. Campaigning is simply chattering, what are the CWU and RM actively doing to ensure that the hours worked over and above are the hours paid, that meal reliefs either wholely or in part are actually taken, that the equipment proscribed on the modernisation revisions is actually being used. I recall the campaign against privatisation, an open topped double decker circling London - wow!dingo wrote:Dvbuk the union has campaigned on those for years. Maybe the PDA will finally stop the praticse of starting early in most cases to finish early.
The union has dignity and respect agreement which should stop people from working past their finishing time without being paid and the PDA will confirm when they have.
Dvbuk the 20 trail offices included 2 in the North East and guess what it showed people finishing before their end of duty time .
Oh and let's tAlk about the fact that the CWU are very close legally in winning for part times including back pay the times when they are on leave when the their hours drop from what they are working when they are in work. So slag of the union but without it these things would not happen.
Does the twenty trial office PDAs show what time the people start, where they compile their D2Ds, if they take a meal relief, if they use a trolley all these things affect finishing time. It would appear that you and RM are not concerned with these issues.
It's no good spouting about what you are close to achieving lets talk about what you are failing to achieve which is a fair and equitable working environment for everyone.

I don't fully understand your position Hatfull.halfull wrote:

On the one hand you talk of early starters and people not booking o/t etc and then when given the very technology that would identify these problems you are against it.
Nobody doing the job properly who accepts that they will be working all their paid hours has anything to fear from the use of this technology.

Re: Summer Resourcing – Resourcing to Workload LTB
It's a bit of a shambles in our office. 10 months after the revision we are still usually 30 mins late getting off the sorting. People only use trolleys if it's essential as they couldn't complete in time if they use them. There are a few who do it to finish early, but they are in the minority.
People are not being allowed to book overtime if the DOM thinks the traffic isn't high enough.
It seems that we are as an office are being blamed for not getting through an unrealistic amount of mail in the morning and then blamed again for going over time or wanting to cut off.
I've been in meetings when you just get figures thrown at you and it is right to say that some people don't work as hard as they should do,but most of us are non stop all day and to my mind when I see the amount of mail we are supposed to sort in little over an hour, you know it's not going to happen however hard you try and however many meetings you have.
I know the reality is that the DOM is under pressure to save on everything, but I've never seen so many unhappy people in the 20 years I've been a Postie.

If I may step in here. Dingo I think you may be missing the point about Officers and FTR reps working in functions. Okay in theory they can understand the problems and come up with solutions, they can even know what is like on the ground. It's not about us knowing what you are doing as regards all the technical stuff you mentioned.
In fact it all down to 1 simple thing. The Union is in the eyes of ordinary members (not the activists and local reps) is more and more seen as out of touch. Wether this is true or not is beside the point, it's a perception that is gaining ground with every agreement and I am afraid the only effective way of reversing it is for Officers and FTR reps to get their hands dirty occasionally, and If I can be blunt, when its mentioned I hope people don't become defensive because that just alienates people even more.

Re: Summer Resourcing – Resourcing to Workload LTB
i never said i was against it, the point im making was some people are born more anxious, nervous & worry more than others & even if they were doing the job properly they would still worry and fret at the thought of a dom tracking their everymove, would you disagree with that?clashcityrocker wrote:I don't fully understand your position Hatfull.halfull wrote:

Can you please inform me how pda's will stop people coming in early as last time i checked we dont take them home & collect them right before we go out on delivery?
I agree, if you are doing the job properly we have nothing to fear, but ive been hearing that for years & the job continues to get more difficult.

Re: Summer Resourcing – Resourcing to Workload LTB
Personally I want my full time release reps to be available to do the things they are supposed to do.
Stage 3 attendance procedure, disagreements, conduct code cases etc - those sorts of things.
What use would they be out on delivery?

agreed but every now and then it might not hurt just having a hands on view what its like to do the job day to day, say once quarter, & in an office thats struggling too.clashcityrocker wrote:Personally I want my full time release reps to be available to do the things they are supposed to do.

Nobody knows it all & we can all learn something everyday even div reps and so on.

There will be New PDAs in the next 6 months which will be far advance of what we have and they will record actual finish times , attendance calls ,the route of each opg , the time spent of first time delivery and number of other things.
1.Is there a list for these 20 offices?
2. So now for the rest of us it will take at least 6 months just to get the new PDA'S and then it's gather information and then it's work out a plan
3. Can an office volunteer to be added to the initial 20 that are happening now, because by god ours needs sorting out now, not in a year or three and I'm sure there are plenty of other offices that are in the same boat.
Looks like you missed or ignored me again, so..... ^

See dingos post a few above yoursRTP wrote: 1.Is there a list for these 20 offices?
Thats the nub of it, although someone else has posted that they expected national roll out is due later than Dingo's projection.RTP wrote:2. So now for the rest of us it will take at least 6 months just to get the new PDA'S and then it's gather information and then it's work out a plan
Probably not, but Dingo may or may not confirm, but as far as I can tell the trial 20 are already set up and running.RTP wrote:3. I'm a bit surprised the union agreed to the monitoring via PDAs - it's a bit like BIG BROTHER IS WATCHING YOU - you don't think they'll make us use them at home as well
Wonder if there's any in lunnun

TBT based on your logic I will do a delivery , then become an CSS operator , then do the job of a cleaner , then get in a van and become a Cit driver , then cook for Quadrant , then work in an RDC , then become an admin work , then work in processing , before becoming a collection driver and then overnight I will drive an ARTIC.
These are the responsibilities of most divisional reps so when would we possibly have time to do union role.
Full time reps are not the problem bad reps are.
There is a sure way of getting rid of a bad rep and that is an election.

Trouble with that is the bad apples always get re-elected and the higher up the ladder you go the more difficult it is to get rid - take a look at the PEC/NEC Area and Div Rep lists and even the CWU HQ have there been any changes at all - they haven't changed in yearsdingo wrote:There is a sure way of getting rid of a bad rep and that is an election.
