The members of the Romanian Postal Workers Union (SLPR) went on a Japanese-style strike (armband strike) throughout the entire country on Tuesday, with pickets to be organised on Thursday as of 10 a.m. in front of county postal offices nationwide and the headquarters of the Romanian Postal Service National Company (CNPR), deputy Secretary general of the Post and Telecommunications Unions Federations, Cristian Iancu. ‘The representatives of the Romanian Postal Workers Union met on Sunday with Minister-delegate for Social Dialogue Aurelia Cristea and Minister for Information Society, Razvan Cotovelea. Unfortunately, no solution was found to the problems we are facing and for this reason, we have decided to duly respect the schedule of protest actions announced last week,’ Iancu said, adding that if authorities keep on ignoring their demands, the trade union leaders will go on hunger strike starting with May 19.
