Hi All

Post by woodie1000 »

Hello everyone. I have just received a formal offer of employment and start on the 6th May :dance I am so excited and can't wait to get stuck in and meet everyone. I have a few questions though if anyone can help me. Firstly, Are the ladies trousers true to size because i'm not sure which size to order? Secondly, There is no mention in my emails of what I should wear on my first day. Does anyone have any advice? and thirdly, Will my 3mth contract eventually be made permanent and does anyone know how long this will take please? I would appreciate any replies. Thanks guys :thumbup

Hello there.

As you're on an initial three month contract, the same as myself. You won't be able to order any uniform. Which is probably just as well because you may well go down a few sizes. Don't think you can order any uniform until you receive you're next contract.
As for clothes I just wear combat trousers, sweatshirt and trainers. Nobodies made any comment thus far.
Anyway good luck, it's not such a bad job really :Very Happy

Where something comfy when you first start particularly in the footwear department... you will be provided with uniform in due course... until then you will go out on delivery wearing a company high-vis...

How long you will remain on a rolling contract is debatable... firstly you have to get through your probation period... if you like the job and are seen to be efficient at it it will be a breeze...

I believe that there is something in the latest national agreement regarding length of temporary contracts and getting made permanent... though it often falls on the individual to jump up and down to a certain degree to get what they want... best not to concern yourself with that aspect of the job for the time being imo...

Cant help you with the ladies trousers... :whistle

There's loads of useful info on this site... good luck... :wave

Hi
Wear comfortable trousers and top. Good walking shoes if possible. Lightweight waterproof jacket would be advisable.
As to uniform trousers I tend to order 1 size larger than my day to day clothing. It's better to have trousers that are a loose fit rather than tight.
Good luck

Thank you for your replies. I have a polo shirt, very comfy black shoes and black trousers but I think I will buy some cargos too. I won't worry about the contract as yet, Just get stuck into the job and see what comes of it. A permanent contract will be a bonus if I get it. This is by far the best job I have ever managed to get and can't wait to meet my new colleagues and get stuck in. I hope I like it. I'm sure I will. Roll on 6th May! :dance

Hello and welcome.
Make sure that you have comfy footwear, comfy socks, and stock up on blister plasters!
In my first week I ended up bruising and losing a toenail! :Sick Just finished my second week.
I'm on a permanent part time contract, and i'm still waiting on my uniform.
At the moment I just wear dark combat trousers, comfy trainers, my own fleece jacket, and the yellow hi-vis which RM gave me on my first day.

Always a good idea to bring a big bottle of water / juice and snacks to help keep yourself hydrated and fed while out on your walk.

Good luck, and enjoy yourself! It may be a bit busy in the delivery office first thing in the morning, but once you get out there on your rounds it is great fun! :Very Happy

Hi Dandelion. Good luck to you too! I guess the running shoes are to outrun the Jack Russells (The worst offenders in my opinion haha)
Bit worried to read about the blisters and bruised feet lol! I regularly walk for 2-3 hrs though on walks with my dog so I'm hoping it won't hit me too hard!
