Finally.. Got my start date!
Hi all, well I have finally got my date to start being a postman! And today I have given in my notice at my current job which felt great. I have gone about it the right way though because as I don't feel I owe anything to the company I work for, I do feel I want to leave on good terms. I have been trying to get into royal mail for a while now but have been waiting for the right position in the right area for me, i must say the whole application process has been great. It's took around 2 months from doing online tests to passing security checks. I start on the 9th April at Kingswinford in West Midlands, has anyone got any wise advice you would like to share with me for my first day?

Re: Finally.. Got my start date!
Welcome
Your first day will be induction which is an introduction to Royal Mail, it will not prepare you for your first day in your delivery office
These were my thoughts at 4 weeks in....http://www.royalmailchat.co.uk/communit ... =2&t=59248
I've been a postie for just over 3 months now and still enjoying it. Take the time to have a good look around on this forum, there is plenty of good advice and no doubt many of the questions you will have will of been answered before.
Good luck

Re: Finally.. Got my start date!
Well done....been in the job nearly 30 years now and it's not as bad as some might say....stand your ground and join the union ASAP....
It really isn't rocket science...deliver your mail and work to your time....first few months are a bit hard, yet it does get easier...take the time on ips to get it right....
And most of all remember it's only a job....royal mail does have a habit of getting under your skin....don't worry what others are doing just worry about what you are....
Keep smiling!

keep a record of any overtime you have done as they do not always pay the correct amount I have done 5 weeks and been underpaid 3 times but on I happy note there seems to be plenty of overtime going. They pay up the following week. I am enjoying the job

Thanks guys, I feel quite privileged. And thank you for the advice! I`m actually an ex service personnel so I have learnt quite well to keep my head down and get on with it, also biting your tongue is something I`ve learnt to do well as you can imagine. I look forward to my first day!
It took around 2/3 weeks for me to hear about the security checks, just sit tight!

Hi all
Finally got my start day today as well, must be the day for it. Think my security checks also took about 18/19 days.
I'm presuming there's no more checks and I can sign off the dreaded dole, but I think I'll wait till the last moment just in case.

Re: Finally.. Got my start date!
They sent me an email as soon as I got off the phone, they did say if I didn't receive an email it might be Monday morning. Tells you welcome date etc and asks you to reply with bank details and of you can confirm the welcome date etc
