Re: zero hour contract
Angard Staffing Solutions LTD are part of Royal Mail and ex-Angardees given p/t contracted hours should not be given/accepting more/overtime hours available. Equitable employment practice should dictate that those who already have regular hours should not be given even more hours when Angardees who are fresh, keen, willing and highly able are currently only getting 4/8 hours/week. The "aggregate system" "decided" by HR is spurious as many shift managers seem to be ringing up individuals during busy times and not working through Angard!Justanotherstar wrote:intelligentsia wrote:Another worrying and unfair practice that is happening at a SW mail centre is that ex-Angard casuals who have been given p/t contract hours and RM contracts recently ARE ALSO ASKED TO DO EXTRA/OVERTIME HOURS by certain shift managers. The whole "selection" process was unfair and flawed based on the whim of an individual shift manager. Nepotism and perversity...some excellent candidates were not chosen. WHY?Verging wrote:Yes it normally goes quiet.
One of our problems now is that Angard/RM, at our MC, have taken on new casuals (with AWR casuals lucky to get more than 10 hours a week before they took on new casuals). Looks like it is time to move on.
Apart from new casuals being cheaper the number of hours that we were getting did not justify the taking on of more casuals.
Totally unfair and unacceptable selection behaviour and procedures.
Any extra hours required to sort mail and achieve targets should be given to Angard staff and not RM regulars who ALREADY have contracted hours!!!
Regulars offered O/T should refuse and managers should not chose their underperforming "pets" but select instead :tried and tested, reliable, punctual and top performing Angardees irrespective of AWR!
Hence we have a completely divided workforce...why should those who already have i.e. hours have more?? Totally greedy, corrupt practice and inequitable
I know i've posted since this was posted but man this is the most retarded thing i've ever read...
Angard casuals are only called in if they can't fill the sheet with RM staff...we are basically emergency extras and to say staff with part time contracts should refuse hours is the most stupid thing I have ever heard, they have to feed their families and pay their bills...why would they turn down work...
Royal mail have no obligation to give us work and the overtime is based on an aggregate system decided by the HR staff NOT the shift managers!!
Some people are just too stupid for words.
You have a most selfish, blinkered attitude. On a busy 1800h-2200h [4h] shift many Angardees are highly capable giving a work performance twice the output of some smug, lazy and complacent regulars! All the requirements for extra staff hours should be equitably distributed. Extra staff hours are calculated? according to workplan clearance targets which local mail centre managers will know more about than some remote HR person in Northampton/Sheffield.
It is you that is being obtuse and prejudiced.

Again, we are Emergency extras...as are people who work for manpower & other agencies when Angard can't offer enough bodies...Not quite sure why that is so hard to understand, the key is in the name, Angard Staffing SOLUTIONS as in offering a solution when there is not enough royal mail staff to meet the targets.

Sorry mate but you're wrong on every level.Intelligentsia wrote:Any extra hours required to sort mail and achieve targets should be given to Angard staff and not RM regulars who ALREADY have contracted hours!!! .
We have a Job Security and Resourcing Agreement that states the opposite.

Now you could argue that Angard Staff are not really agency staff but for the purposes of resourcing....they are.3.4 Agency workers are intended to cover short term or unforeseen resourcing needs expected to last for periods of no more than 12 weeks, which cannot be covered by offering additional earnings opportunities to existing employees whilst maintaining quality of service. In the rare circumstances that employment exceeds 12 weeks the comparable pay provisions of the agency workers’ regulations will apply.
good times, bad times you know I've had my share

Re: zero hour contract
I've had recent problems with Angard, being underpaid is the main issue and paying emergency tax. Not recieving the payments on the correct date is a constant problem. I have contacted Angard regarding more shifts but they tell me that there isn't any available yet the shift managers at Cardiff have asked me numerous of times to come into work. Also Angard had warned me not to take any on site bookings yet they aren't giving me the available shifts but forwarding them on to new casual workers. It's a disgrace!
