Looking through the forum, I see preferential treatment can be given to posties for a variety of reasons.
I am over 63 and have been a postie for about 18 months. I am on a town round which, as you all know is quite stressful on the body. Currently all is well and I am coping and long may my good health continue.
So, can I can leap frog a long serving postie for a rural round due to my age?
Is there a set age when a postie stops doing a town round.
Also, who is the oldest postie on here doing a town round?

as a postman of 36 years service I will always say seniority is god, but on several occasions when a manager has placed an individual on a certain duty without advertising it to be picked on seniority, the said managers have said I have a duty of care to my staff, and there was not a lot I could do about it.

Thanks, I totally understand and respect your view. This currently is a hypothetical question, due to spending too much time on here!
However, if I do start to struggle with the work load I was simply wondering if the DOM could move me to a rural or make life difficult for me. I know, that could never happen!

some of my mates who work within the dly function have told me they have had there duties adjusted to take into account their age. ive never seen this written down in any agreement, but they seem to be by passed come revision time. our great leader [union] Gibson told us there was no evidence of adverse effect on older members of staff on dlys. take from that what you will.
We got told by our boss ,if you're a lot older that doesn't come into it as you should manage the same time as a younger person!, Near 50 and I cannot imagine doing this in my 60s and damaging my weary body even more.

he's a prick and will get his comeuppance when profit taking increases in this company and no marks like him are sacrificed. what a world we live in when individuals who have worked for a company made it highly profitable can then be sacrificed on the alter of youth. come the revolution.

Well when you are feeling the strain drop your hours to give your body more time to recover. I had a stroke about 10 years ago but made a full recovery and will be 68 this year but now only work 20 hours a week and am seriously considering retiring this year.
You're not a senior postie. You're a senior person, granted. But not a senior postie.
There is no defined age to move from any role to another.
But, if you start to struggle with your job at some point, then you may be able to argue for adjustments to be made to your duty to enable you to continue in your work, without any further deterioration of your health.

Just pinned a calendar to my frame. 64 and retiring in a year. Adjustments for us oldies. Are you having a laugh. DVB you sure you are not a Shepherd? I can see you sitting by the flock with your trusty friend by your side, but Postman, how the f.ck do you even do 20 hours. Queens Honours List for you my boy.

No accolades for me lincox I haven't worked outdoors for years, my knee went when I was 56 or so and I have worked indoors in a variety of roles ever since. Currently in the RLE but did business replies, redirections, cycle mechanic, DOM support,callers office and went down to 20 hours this week. I enjoyed deliveries and still have an affinity with delivery lads and lassies, I haven't forgotten how difficult it was at times and how much worse it is now.
My 60 year old colleague has asked because of his age can his duty be ring fenced in the up and coming revision?
Is their any truth their is a specific person within Royal Mail who deals with the issues of the senior members of the workforce ?
