Prices tumble as companies compete to offer consumers the best deal

http://postandparcel.info/59720/news/pr ... best-deal/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

A price war has been ignited between some of the UK’s biggest parcel companies as they look to gain ground on a sector which was split wide open in the wake of Royal Mail Privatisation.

Through Parcel2Go.com, UK’s courier comparison website, consumers can currently send parcels for as little as 99p – a substantial decrease on the lowest Royal Mail offer at £2.60. Other firms are following suit in a bid to gain favour with the public – Interparcel having temporarily reduced its lowest cost to £1.50.

December 2013 was one of the busiest ever months for parcel firms as the public continued to change its allegiance from the high street to online retailers. January traditionally sees a decrease in parcel volumes and proactive firms are keen to combat this by lowering costs to record levels. As the true effects of a privatised Royal Mail continue to emerge, there is expected to be a surge in new offerings from existing firms as well as new players entering the market looking to take advantage of an industry which is more egalitarian than ever. Shop-to-shop delivery is now one of the most economical ways to send a parcel and offers customers the convenience of sending and receiving parcels at a time and location close to them.

James Greenbury, CEO Parcel2Go.com says:

“The parcel sector is evolving more rapidly than ever before and it’s been interesting to watch how different companies are reacting. We’ve long been expecting a price war, and, as we are committed to offering the lowest price, naturally this is something Parcel2Go.com has been a major player in.. Don’t be surprised if these initial skirmishes lead to an all-out price war – which would be great news for the consumer!”

- all depends what you define as a 'parcel', many smaller packages accepted by Royal Mail as a 'Large Letter' from 69p which no other company could match. :Very Happy

Extremely misleading. The 'service' quoted is UPS Access Point (99p + VAT). Sender has to drop off, and recipient has to collect from a UPS designated Access Point. :roll:

Indeed. :shock: On the UPS Access Point website I perused "Search for a local drop off" for Lerwick and found it to be in Thurso - some 137 miles distant. :crazy:

I noticed some fund sold £1.7 million shares this afternoon... I know nowt about the stock market but it seems a big hit in one go compared to other sales... but probably not in context of the value of shares out there...

One other thing... don't want to clog the forum with a new thread and the info I'm about to ask is probably here somewhere... can anyone confirm our shares were priced at 489p? :hmmmm

Hi t-c

Agree the floated price was 330p... if you look at the 2013 SIP Allocation we received we were allocated 613 shares at at value of £2997,57 which equates to 489p per share...

If you look at the small print at the bottom of the page it states: :'The initial market value of your SIP 2013 Allocation is based on the mid-price on 15 Oct 2013 which was 489p'

EVERYBODY I've spoken to believes the price was 330p... either I'm being very naive or we've seemingly been misled... :silenced

All full time staff were to be issued 725 shares worth £3.30 at the launch. Due to the rapid rise of the shares and new laws introduced by the government when the shares became worth more than £3,000 every postie become liable to pay tax on the shares we would not be able to sell for 3 years. so they split them up over 2 tax years.

Post&Parcel and theDelivery magazine are becoming marketing tools for James Greenbury, CEO Parcel2Go.com

If you look at the customer feedback left on Parcel2Go.com website it is clear that they have been very selective with the feedback they have published as it bears no correlation to some of the more independent review sites (moneysaving expert/reviewcentre).
