Swiss Post has agreed a new wage deal with unions Syndicom and Transfair that will see the minimum wage increased to CHF 50,000 (EUR 40,759)
{RMC £34080.47} from 2014.
The deal covers about 34,000 employees at Swiss Post itself and at its banking subsidiary PostFinance.
Within the package, staff will receive a one-off bonus of CHF 700 (EUR 571), to reflect the company’s “positive” annual financial results. Swiss Post said that since it has achieved a “good performance” in the current year, it was setting aside 0.8% of its total salary costs to pay performance-related bonuses for staff.
Swiss Post said it had also agreed to extend its childcare allowances system to apply for children up to 10 years old – previously, the support was only available for children up to four years old.
The new collective bargaining agreement still has to be approved by the unions’ decision-making committees and the Swiss Post/PostFinance boards. The deal is separate to labour deals with Swiss Post’s public transport division PostBus, facilities management business InfraPost, and high-value goods logistics subsidiary SecurePost, which are still negotiating with the unions.
Transfair said yesterday that its postal/logistics committee has approved the collective bargaining agreement.
The unions have been negotiating with Swiss Post since August with the aim of avoiding a pay cut. Transfair said it had been campaigning to protect working conditions and prevent parts of the company being sold off. The union has also been campaigning for more support for the family, with the need to recognize that women are as economically active as men, and that postal employees need support for children.
Swiss Post, which has about 62,000 staff in total, maintained its revenues at around the CHF 8.6bn level (EUR 7bn) in 2012 compared to the year before, though profits slipped by 5%.
The state-owned company became a Public Limited Company this summer, restructuring into three subsidiaries of Post CH Ltd, PostFinance Ltd and PostBus Switzerland Ltd.

Switzerland – population around 8 million – postal employees 62,000.
UK – population around 63 million – postal employees 170,000.
They’re more labour intensive than us!
So how can they afford this, when we can’t?

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

Population density is significant in the cost of providing a postal service but there's not much difference here, Switzerland 198 per sq km, UK 259 per sq km.Straight4ward wrote:Hold on - - -

40,000 euros a year to deliver to the troll at the top of the Matterhorn - I'd rather park and loop
I've had a holiday in Switzerland and that much won't go far

While here it's more like £20,000 a year to deliver to the troll at the top of Ben Nevis, and such a rural duty won't be park and loop.rhino49 wrote:40,000 euros a year to deliver to the troll at the top of the Matterhorn - I'd rather park and loop
