Not so sure about demanding clocking in and out, opens up a can of worms. We have plenty of days when we finish early, especially in summer and on Tuesdays. Of course i could work in the only delivery office in Britain where this happens but somehow i doubt it. The old adage, be careful what you wish for, springs to mind.

It only opens up a can of worms for the most senior members & the office runners, the rest of us work our hours & then some

No, which was my point in the first place. Here's a thing though, if you just make time on the light days ( Tuesdays maybe) i presume you're well over on the heavy one's. Just work to your time, isn't that why you call yourself " Cut Off King" after all ?

Like all workplaces you have those who take the piss and those who work for a living will you stop being divisive and concentrate on the topic in hand!

The good old days in MC are long gone. Same as they have long gone on delivery. We work till our time every day. We take our breaks that we are due to. The overtime is getting tighter as more and more machines are introduced. As the saying goes "we are all in this together". Stop the bitterness and infighting between functions, it really does us no good at all. Finally remember that when a deal is finally put to the membership that deliveries have the overwhelming majority of votes to accept or reject.

One thing I think would help conquer this artificial divide, if it really exists and is not just in peoples minds, is that Delivery Staff and MC staff should, as part of their training, spend 1 day in the others functions. Even managers, it would certainly help cut down on inefficient practices and would help each function understand the challenges for the other - thats what real WCM should aim for.

You could not be more wrong! I was there as a staff from Angard. The casuals are defo treated differently, they get less breaks (even minus the unpaid break) and they are watched like a hawk and made to work till the very last minute whilst the regular staff... whatever! This was only 2 years ago!

The only reason why I get so cross is that the handful of MC staff coming on here having a go at delivery staff for expressing their frustrations... There are real issues in delivery that most people in MC will never understand, andor even put up with given how cushy things are for them.

Rant over! It has been another horrible week and there is not much in terms of update on the talks - so sniping at MC staff is...

On the issue of finishing early on Tuesdays... I have to disagree that it is an absolute that we finish early on Tuesday: some days we do not finish early, moreover we do get paid for less hours on Tuesday anyways.

I get paid for 6 hours on Tuesday and I have a typical 4/4.15 hr delivery round - so when the mail is relatively down, the gains in minutes is not that much. Add the fact that I do 1/6 of my D2Ds everyday; I will still have the clocking in and clocking out system.

I've worked in a MC, and some of the staff in my office still do OT at our local one. Everyone agrees that working in a MC is far easier, BUT those of us on delivery would still rather do delivery instead of working indoors being bored so none of us has any resentment towards MC staff.

I'd like their breaks though, our local MC night shift gets twice the breaks we do, 80 minutes to our 40.

it was royal mail who wanted to separate staff remember delivery/distribution/processing it was a part of the breakdown to sell us off years ago.delivery offices should worry when they start on cross border deliverys then the duties will be drastic and this will be after 5 day weeks of a tuesday-saturday,with sunday/mondays our rest days. a saving of all rest day cover dutys.

Yeah, afraid you've jumped the gun there judgee, there's only a fifth as many MC workers as DO officers so at best it would be 1 week in 5 - still...........
