We voted to strike until we get near to what we want,not for one day then have another ballot,this should have been all included,and if you refuse to touch the DSA mail you could be sacked for with holding mail

I'm hoping that other action is in addition to the strikes because if it's just the one day and then another ballot you can count me out for voting again. It looks to me like they are already bottling it tbh.

I think this is in preparation of the Christmas pressure. The Union know that the public would turn against us if we delayed christmas presents and cards, however to me it also suggests that the CWU believe this could be a long drawn out dispute and are positioning themselves for that possibility.

Well I for one don't buy that. The talks have been going on since April, there's has been no movement to improve the offer, which I believe many people and Royal Mail think is a good offer, without of course the addenda. The strikes should have been called for the 26th and 28th of October and the 4th of November. What on earth is the point of having a one day strike and then a re-ballot on a lesser scale, if that was to be the case we should have first gone for that. The union know the public would turn against us? - just what does the union think the public are going to do? - public opinion is going to be determined by the media response to any action taken. 72% of the public didn't want privatisation but it happened and many people will make a good profit from it and so the price has to be paid. Christmas Pressure? - is that not precisely when we should strike when the service is needed the most? It looks like a question of "we want terms, pay etc but we don't want to inconvenience anybody"

If that is the case and I don't think it is, we could settle those two issues and revisit terms and conditions with the no strike clause and working practices at a later date, after the Christmas pressure, BUT the problem is that RMs offer is the full package so even if the pay and pension element is agreed the offer as a whole is not and so it is a hypothetical agreement.

the issue of pay and pensions is a easier puzzle to solve,and again i believe they are close to getting over the line.terms and conditions is a box of fireworks, and is extremely difficult to predict the outcome on the whole host of issues that brings.the term "legally binding" is an awkward term that is regulary used,its absolute definition is difficult to understand.can it be revisited????..of course it can.the union need to tread very carefully,so this issue is troublesome.

the worrry i have,is this,even if we get a good deal with the present management,what happens if they are replaced by a "hostile takeover" ?.now that we are a PLC. anyone can take control,and any agreement would be meaningless.look at how our top football clubs have fallen into the hands of foreign owners

This industrial action could go on into the New Year, if you look at POL they are not bending at all, the second ballot is similar to what they done, working to rule may be acceptable to the doubters who do not wish to take strike action and save the Unions face.

In light of recent developments in the long-running dispute over Crown Workers' pay, job security and the future of the network the CWU has decided to withdraw the two notices for action short of a strike for 22nd October - 28th October inclusive. NATIONAL DISPUTE – UPDATE


The company accepted our offer for fresh talks and these began on Wednesday 23rd October.


In commencing these talks the company also agreed that the previously rejected offer was off the table and they confirmed that they would make a new improved offer on the key aspects of the dispute.


At this stage no new offer has been forthcoming.


The Union will serve notice on the 28th October and the current situation is that the 24 hour strike on the 4th November will go ahead. The detailed start and finish times of the 24 hour strike will be published once the formal notice has been served on Monday.

The union has certainly lost it as far as me and my office are concerned. The top brass Hayes, Ward and co should gracefully resign their positions.

We paid £8 million to the Labour party and they gave no commitment to re-nationalise, for me the union hierarchy has sadly failed. I can not see how they can stand and look at Postmen/women with an ounce of credibility. We now must stop funding the Labour Party at the very least.
