Advice Needed

I was a Postman from 2003 to 2005, I enjoyed the job however I had to go sick due to mental health problems and I was medically ill health retired as occupational health didn't feel I was likely to return. I recieved a lump sum payment.
Since then I have fully recovered from my problems and have been discharged by my consultant I have worked as a Prison Officer, a job that I hated and resigned from.
I still have a lot of postie friends and I do miss the job, fresh air and exercise. I really would like to rejoin Royal Mail if I could. I understand that I would have to pay back my lump sum. Something which I don't have an issue with. Just wondering if anyone else has been in this situation and what advice they could give me

11. RE-EMPLOYMENT FOLLOWING ILL HEALTH RETIREMENT

Where an individual has been retired for Ill Health they will have opportunity to request re-employment within Royal Mail Group when/if they are again able to carry out their previous duty or another duty for the employer and there will be no artificial barriers to their re-employment.

Royal Mail Group is an equal opportunities employer and will consider all applications on their merit, including those from previous employees. Experience gained from working within the Group in the past is an advantage in any recruitment process, and this applies equally to individuals that have been retired on ill health grounds. In such cases however, it would be essential for an individual to demonstrate that they have recovered sufficiently to be able to perform a normal range of duties.

Re-employment will be subject to a referral to the OHS to confirm the individual has recovered from the ill health that supported the recommendation for retirement. The individual will be required to provide supporting evidence that they have recovered from their ill health and may be required to have a medical examination.

Their previous overall attendance record will be considered in the normal way but they will not be disadvantaged due to absences related to their ill health retirement.

It is also important to recognise that:

• It will be unlikely individuals will be able to return to their original former job.
• It will be dependent on an appropriate vacancy being available.
• They may be expected to be flexible in terms of job location and date of return.
• Where retraining is required it will be given.
• On their return they will be eligible to join the appropriate Pension Scheme for new employees.

Thing is when I try to apply online as soon as I put in NI number, it doesn't let me progress anyfurther, am told to email HR which I will
Also my problems were psychiatric depression I am and was physically sound, I would only want to return as an OPG on delivery. Looking back now and I understand the jobs changed but it really was the best job I've had.
I was signed off sick for 6 months prior to ill health retirement, I appreciate this may be an issue for RM realistically would I have much hope, I've been trying to find any case studies similar but can't seem to

As you left Royal Mail Group on Ill Health Retirement - Lump Sum terms on 25/06/2005, this means we cannot accept any applications from you for new employment.

Have you tried contacting your MP - with RM being in the news I think most mainstream politicians would grab the chance to get their face in the news. More so, weirdly, if its a Conservative MP, as you are looking for a job and a previously disabled, another chance to score points.

Contact HR and tell them to read section 11 of the Agreement Between Royal Mail Group And Unite-CMA And CWU On Managing Employees With Long Term Ill Health

Where it clearly states..

Where an individual has been retired for Ill Health they will have opportunity to request re-employment within Royal Mail Group when/if they are again able to carry out their previous duty or another duty for the employer and there will be no artificial barriers to their re-employment.

If they refuse tell them you will take their email to a discrimination lawyer and see what they have to say about blacklisting people on disability grounds.
Someone in HR has screwed up.
Once someone who is aware of the consequences finds out it will be fixed.

I was an officer for 11 months, tried my best at it but wasn't for me in the end I found out

I spoke to a nice lady in HR and told her of my situation she sent an email on my behalf and, got back to me. Royal Mail have now lifted the sanction on me applying for jobs. So I am now able to re apply, she didn't say anything about having to pay back lump sum however.

There aren't many local jobs, so i've set up an alert. Are most OPG jobs part time now, as the one's I've seen are and only offering a 3 month contract.
Also do new entrants still have to pass the IPS sorting test, that I did a long time ago.

I believe all jobs for RM are PT and temporary.
I haven't known any new entrants with anything less for at least 5 years.
Don't think you'd have to pass IPS, as in most offices it's the domain of FT staff now. But, it may differ in some smaller units.
