Re: Is anyone on ROYALMAILCHAT going to buy extra shares.
I think, for those who have the £500 or more to consider investing, my advice - for what it's worth - is this....
Assuming analysts are correct, and we will receive free shares that are worth an initial £2000, an investment of £500 is not too high a risk. When we eventually get a pay deal, our back pay (!) and Xmas bonus will cover most of that £500.
If, in 5 years time, you have received dividends at approximately 3% per annum, you will have received £375. So, assuming you still hold your extra shares, the share price would have had to have collapsed spectacularly for you to not be in profit at the end of 5 years. (On the basis that the majority of your shares cost you nothing).

TrueBlueTerrier wrote:I personally could not stomach buying any extra - how comical would it be you spend £500 on extra shares, the ballot result causes the price to plummet, and the ensuing strike action exacerbates the problem. All of a sudden your £500 is worth £50 (perhaps more perhaps less). If the strike action keeps going for a while, or there is continued industrial unrest it would take ages for the share price to get back to the offer price.
Then institutional share holders wanting to make a profit on their investment ask for savings. They dismiss 40,000 as one article suggested and if you are one of them, your £500 quid which could have been gaining interested in an ISA or high interest account is worth a fraction of its value, and because you, or others, have been protecting your T&Cs you effectively have invested in a scheme which is going to cause job losses, and the stinger is that you lost money and your job doing it.
Not very comical, but if you have to decide if you want to protect your T&Cs, or buy shares to make a profit - in the short to medium term I don't think you can sit on both sides of the fence.

Re: Is anyone on ROYALMAILCHAT going to buy extra shares.
I'm not.
I wouldn't be able to look at myself in the mirror.
Nor could I accept making money from the misery of my colleagues, and myself, losing jobs, T&C's etc.
As for whether I think it would be a good investment, the truth is, no one knows, it's a guess, a gamble as wandle says.
You could make a fortune.
You could lose money. If you can't afford to lose money, don't do it. Just the same, don't do it if, like myself, you're morally opposed to the sale.
I expect plenty of managers will buy into it, using their bonus monies probably, as they all seem to be swallowing the propaganda quite easily and eagerly. And promoting it.

WHY I have voted YES to industrial action why would I buy shares which will lose money come the strike action. Yes shares are a long term investment but LABOUR conference said it is committed to renationalising the Royal Mail what would your investment look like after a LABOUR victory in 2015?

I'm not entirely sure that is correct, I believe it was a fringe meeting but no matter we'll see what the manifesto says at election time - bearing in mind they'll be flapping their gums at the end of next year before the election in 2015 so in reality there's only a year for bad things to happen and if the 3 year legal guaranteek979aaa wrote:WHY I have voted YES to industrial action why would I buy shares which will lose money come the strike action. What the conference says is not always policy or in the manifesto but it would put the market in the same situation!mickeymacca wrote:are you for real??k979aaa wrote:WHY I have voted YES to industrial action why would I buy shares which will lose money come the strike action. Conference made a motion which was carried unanimously to renationalise BUT that was conference it is not a Labour government and what goes on at conference stays at conference.................if it's in the manifesto at the next election that's when you need to take notice.k979aaa wrote:http://www.cwu.org/news/archive/labour- ... -mail.htmldvbuk55 wrote:I'm not entirely sure that is correct, I believe it was a fringe meeting but no matter we'll see what the manifesto says at election time - bearing in mind they'll be flapping their gums at the end of next year before the election in 2015 so in reality there's only a year for bad things to happen and if the 3 year legal guaranteek979aaa wrote:WHY I have voted YES to industrial action why would I buy shares which will lose money come the strike action.
