Indeed.
Plenty other shares you could buy if you want to dabble in the markets without buying shares in this company then obviously hoping they pay plenty of your colleagues off to keep the dividends rolling in.
Poor form. :cuppa
good times, bad times you know I've had my share

Yes, almost certainly. The dividend is especially attractive when other investment returns(PSBs, Interest rates) are so low.

:hmmmm I've been trying to calculate how much money I can make if I buy £5000 worth at say £2.70 and then sell them @ £3.30 a week or two later sans expenses, it could be a grand for a fortnights work...........well not work really, :hmmmm could spring to £10k or so without breaking the bank, the more I think about it :whistle

I'll say, the interest rate on savings is abysmal, I'm just too lazy to look at alternatives but when it's on a plate with potential high earnings, well........... :hmmmm

No one knows if the shares will appreciate as you have suggested. If not, you could have a large sum 'tied up' for a while. If you're comfortable with that, then fine.

You all do know that the minimum spend is £500.

Or
a week and a half pay

or

two and a half weeks pay for your average part timer

0r

a quarter of your DOM's bonus.

Try as I do, I never seem to have that much spare cash, what with life and all.

I personally could not stomach buying any extra - how comical would it be you spend £500 on extra shares, the ballot result causes the price to plummet, and the ensuing strike action exacerbates the problem. All of a sudden your £500 is worth £50 (perhaps more perhaps less). If the strike action keeps going for a while, or there is continued industrial unrest it would take ages for the share price to get back to the offer price.

Then institutional share holders wanting to make a profit on their investment ask for savings. They dismiss 40,000 as one article suggested and if you are one of them, your £500 quid which could have been gaining interested in an ISA or high interest account is worth a fraction of its value, and because you, or others, have been protecting your T&Cs you effectively have invested in a scheme which is going to cause job losses, and the stinger is that you lost money and your job doing it.

Not very comical, but if you have to decide if you want to protect your T&Cs, or buy shares to make a profit - in the short to medium term I don't think you can sit on both sides of the fence.

I’ve read the views of various financial experts and they all have different opinions on whether privatisation will be a success. Some say it’s a good short term investment, some say the dividend is high therefore it’s good long term thing, while others say it’ll be a disaster. And people on this forum think they have insider knowledge (both for and against) because they work for the company.

Ultimately shares are a gamble and putting your faith in the success of one company is a very risky thing to do. So anyone thinking of buying shares should only really spend what they can afford to lose should the worst happen and should ideally treat investing in RM shares as part of a balanced portfolio.

I appreciate that most people won’t be buying more shares and I respect the reasons given, whether that’s lack of money, on principle or they just think they won’t make money. Although you also have to remember that if you have AVC’s, a personal pension or other equity based product, you may well be investing in RM shares without really realising it, and you will be affected by the scenarios you describe aswell.

without stating the obvious there is a cost to buying and selling shares. you have to pay your broker’s fees and also Stamp Duty to the Government. You’ll also need to take into account the bid-offer spread (the difference between the buying and selling price of shares) as this can eat into profits too.
I am far from an expert , but the stock market is another form of gambling and nobody really knows what is going to happen , do they really ? hence the gamble !!
I do like a punt but I like to know my fate within a shorter time scale , so I am taking my £500 and placing it on Fleetwood to beat Exeter City today @ 3/4.
however please note :-
Most people gamble for fun and enjoyment. However, some people think of gambling as a way to make money, spend more than they can afford, or use gambling to distract themselves from everyday problems. Following these simple tips can help make sure your gambling doesn't become a problem.

1. Don't think of gambling as a way to make money:

The venue is using gambling to make money. It's not designed to work the other way around. Over time you will give away more money than you receive! Think of gambling as an entertainment expense – just like buying a movie ticket.

2. Only gamble with money you can afford to lose:

Gamble within your weekly entertainment budget, not with your phone bill or rent budget.

3. Set a money limit in advance:

Decide how much you can afford to lose before you go to play. When it's gone – it's over! If you win, you've been lucky, but don't be disappointed if your luck doesn't continue.

4. Set a time limit in advance:

It's easy to lose track of time when you're gambling. Set a time limit or alarm, and when time's up – quit! Odds are that the more time you spend gambling, the more money you will lose.

5. Never chase your losses:

If you lose your set money limit and then try to win some of it back before you leave, then you haven't really set a money limit. Chasing your losses will usually just lead to bigger and bigger losses.

6. Don't gamble when you're depressed or upset:

Decision-making can be more difficult when you're stressed or emotionally upset. Make sure you only gamble when you're feeling happy and clear headed.

7. Balance gambling with other activities:

When gambling becomes your only form of entertainment, it's unlikely that you're still just gambling for the fun of it, and your gambling may even be a problem. Make sure gambling isn't your only pastime.

8. Don't take your bank card with you.

This is a good way to safeguard your money limit and not let being "in the moment" warp your judgment.

9. Take frequent breaks

Gambling continuously can cause you to lose track of time and perspective. Step out for some air or a bite to eat at regular intervals.

10. Don't drink or use drugs when gambling

Drugs and alcohol cloud judgment, and good judgment stands as your main line of defense against letting gambling get out of control.

It's really up to you !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
