I'm applying for a Postman/Woman with driving, its a several month temp position, I've had no problems with the application process so far.
However, I'm really worried about the level of checking they do. I've never had any convictions, cautions or motoring offences but my employment history over the last few years is sketchy at best, I had some pretty bad mental health problems back in 2008 that cost me my job in IT (I don't want to go back to IT) I'm well recovered now thankfully. Since my ill health I've done bits and bobs on the taxis, working for agencies, selling on eBay, so some self employment and short stints travelling, more recently I've been on and off jobseekers between agency work.
There's no way I can accurately recall my employment history that would tally with such close scrutiny, I'm terrible with paperwork so I have no records to look back on. When applying for jobs I generally just give a simplified approximation of my work history on my CV. Looking at some of the quotes below that came up during the application process has me bordering on giving up, but I'm hear asking for advice because I really want to be a postie! I'd really rather not lay out my intimate personal issues to a stranger, even if I did, in the real world, it would probably count against me.
Do they really delve into such depths for every employees background?
