Just wondering. At present Royal Mail vans are allowed to park for the purpose of collecting or delivering mail, even where there are parking restrictions, with a few exceptions such as on a pedestrian crossing or disabled bay.
This is because Royal Mail is specifically excluded, unlike private mail carriers like TNT or DHL. In places like central London this is essential as there are yellow lines everywhere. I believe TNT have complained before that this is unfair.
So what happens if Royal Mail becomes a private company. Would the exclusion still apply? If not I can foresee a lot of problems in collection and deliveries.
Any ideas?

Re: Vans still allowed to collect & deliver?
Yes it would still apply - its not based on who the company is, or who owns them, but the fact that we are a USO provider. If another company took on the USO burden then they would be allowed the same parking liberties and we would lose them. Its written into legislation as well.
