MP in bid to halt Royal Mail sell off

A Dearne MP has signed a petition asking Business Minister, Michael Fallon MP, to stop the sell-off of Royal Mail and save the daily delivery.

The Government has said it intends to privatise the Royal Mail by way of a share sale (IPO) this financial year, with just 10 per cent of shares going to Royal Mail employees.

Barnsley East MP Michael Dugher said: “For many in Barnsley the local post office acts as a focal point for communities and there are thousands of pensioners in Barnsley who are reassured by seeing their regular postie every morning.

“We all rely on the Royal Mail – from receiving that parcel we’ve ordered online to knowing that a birthday card we’ve sent is going to arrive in time. David Cameron’s plans for privatising Royal Mail reveal once again how he stands up for the wrong people. His Government wants to sell off Royal Mail on the cheap.

“Last year the Royal Mail made a profit of £400m; there is no need to sell off the Royal Mail and risk losing the daily delivery, which is so important to so many in Barnsley.”

the daily delivery is not related to the owner of royal mail, it is related to the law, which is a separate issue.
