POSTAL SINGLE OPERATIONAL GRADE

Post by gibpostie »

Hi all as some of you know here in gibraltar we have parity in pay and leave with all royal mail SOG grades there in UK.I have been involved for some time as Union rep here in the post office and have been posting in this forum since last year.I hope some can help us with info.
For some time now i have been posting in this forum asking various questions to actually get a clearer input of who we are in Parity with as you have national, outer london and inner london.Currently and since over 20 years our parity has been linked to a small town in England with a handful of postmen.
For some time now we have been asking for a review of parity as we see it unfair to be linked to a small town when Gibraltar is a financial Centre with over 25,000 inhabitants. Here in Gibraltar the full staff including managers is 40,We deal with Ems,Parcel Post,Registered mail,Express mail, and we have next day delivery.Item posted on a Monday at 7pm will be delivered on a Tuesday at 11am.We have 13 delivery walks. All SOG postmen and sorters have the same basic Salary of £17,991 per year.
My question is for any one out there that can help me with the following questions.
1/
Why does a National SOG ,Outer London and Inner London SOG all get different weekly/yearly pays?
What does one do more than the other?
2/is the National sog pay still £393.72 (with delivery supplement)weekly?(was told this info last december on this forum)Does anyone have the info for the 3 national, outer and inner london?
3/Working hours are 40 per week?lunch 40 mins?
Can anyone tell me their total gross earning until the end of the financial year, including bonuses etc etc.just a sum no need for private info.

I thank you all for any help anf info you can give us,you can not imagine how many obstacles are put in our way every time we ask for information here in Gibraltar,as no one seems to know or want to tell us the above info.We do need this info to see if we are been treated fairly in relation to our parity agreement.
THANK YOU ALL FROM THE STAFF IN THE ROYAL GIBRALTAR POST OFFICE :dance

London weighting is paid on the basis of the increase in cost of living. Renting a single bedroom flat in the centre of London could typically cost £2000 a month, outside london £500 a month. It seems fitting that you are paired with a small town. To be honest 25,000 inhabitants really is quite small and I very much doubt the cost of living where you are is any where near as expensive as London is it?!
Union what Union? Do we have a union?

Here in Gibraltar, cost of housing is very high my current normal 3 bedroom flat is worth £213,000 a 2 bedroom flat would cost £160,000(these are standard non luxury housing)
A luxury house would region at £200,000 for a 1 bedroom to 4million for a semi detached house.Gibraltar is also a financial centre with over 50,000 companies so amount of mail and services offered in a daily basis i think can not be compared to a small town with 1000 inhabitants.
But anyway all comments are welcome, thanks for your input.

Well I get outer London weighting and house/flat prices around here do seem to be on a par with where you are. Your round/customer size also seems on par with what we have here. Good luck with trying to get an increase I guess you may have a case for pay on a par with Outer London weighting. But I feel you have an uphill battle on your hands! Royal Mail and what is fair are not generally words that go together!
Union what Union? Do we have a union?

Hi to all in Gib,
1) London get more in quite a few jobs not only Royal mail because the cost of living is higher
2) yes are pay is the same as you say £393.72 with del supp included don't know what London gets.
3) it's a 39hr week with 40mins break
my gross for 2012-2013 was 23,500 that includes over time and a couple of payments we got for a revision

hope this helps

You should be able to ask for pay documents from your area rep or line manager

Thanks all for all your help.
Here in Gib the Post of SOG is a Civil Servant Government job and they are very hard to get as vacancies are usually given to supply workers who have covered the post for at least 3 years.

We dont have sheep but we have the Barbary Apes that do BITE

again thanks all
