Letter to Branches
No. 533/13
Ref: 230 or 717.04
Date: 2nd August 2013
To: Branches with POSTAL Members
Dear Colleague,
Workplace Coaches
Further to the publication of LTB 384/13, circulated on the 4th June 2013, a meeting took place with Royal Mail on the 4th July to discuss the situation and provide an opportunity for both sides to state their case.
The CWU made it clear that we did not see the ‘additional’ responsibilities that were being advertised falling under the terms of the existing National Agreement and if Royal Mail wished to proceed as intended then they would have to renegotiate the Agreement.
They have failed to attempt to renegotiate the Agreement and notices we have received advertising for WPCs indicate they are pressing ahead regardless. This will be raised with Royal Mail at national level. However this LTB is to reiterate to Branches that the direction given in the above mentioned LTB still remains the case until such time as CWU HQ advises differently.
In view of this Branches and Representatives are reminded that any attempt to proceed with the recruitment of Workplace Coaches aligned to the proposed new role should be challenged immediately via the IR Framework. If management refuse to adhere to the Framework then unilateral disagreement should be registered and the issue referred immediately to the appropriate Officer, where consideration will be given as to how to progress the issue and any action to be taken.
Branches and Representatives are requested to ensure that this LTB is given the widest publicity as a matter of urgency.

here's an idea! Send an LTB out to the reps when the coaches were all booked in last week and have just finished the course today, not that if I hadn't have seen it on here I would have seen the LTB anyway.

The Union are now in direct opposition to World Class Mail.
Initially we are asking Branches not to take any premature action on this policy before the Postal Executive has met next Tuesday and we have also had the opportunity to meet with Royal Mail on Wednesday 7th August 2013 to inform them of the decision.

"and it is the intention that every work unit (ie. each Delivery Office, Collection Hub, Network Unit and work/shift area within Mail Centres) will have a Coach."
Will have A coach. "A" coach, singular, as in not half a dozen!
