As the Communication Workers Union meet in London, Simon Walker, Director General of the Institute of Directors, responds to the union’s threat of strike action:

“The government is absolutely right to pursue the privatisation of Royal Mail, which will allow it to modernise, compete and survive.

“Strike action would be unjustified, highly irresponsible and would hit businesses hard. It would serve only to undermine the reputation of the Royal Mail at a time when the focus should be on making the most of the privatisation process.

“The terms offered to staff under privatisation are both sensible and generous. The public will not support strike action when postal workers are being offered an 8.6% pay rise along with cash bonuses and shares in the future company.

“Contingency plans to negate the effect of any strike should be put in place, and the government must hold firm in its commitment to modernising this vital service. If it comes to it, the government should consider reaching out to all existing private providers in an effort to overcome trade union intransigence.”

The IoD's membership has been plummeting for years.
Now they are even accepting students making the name "Institute Of Directors" kind of silly.
The reason their membership is falling is because even directors of real companies that actually make things can't stand them.
They are full of venture capitalists,bankers and fund managers including Mr Walker.
Throw in some lawyers and a few mass murderers and you have Hell's waiting room.
