Parcelforce Owner Driver

Post by martella »

Hello Everyone. Parcelforce are advertising for Owner Drivers. The ad states that you can earn £45,000-£70.000 a year minus operating costs. :Very Happy Does anyone know if this is achievable? To be honest the last thing that I want to do is to be self employed but after applying for several employed jobs as a postman and getting nowhere this may be my only choice. I was a postie for 23 years but had to take medical retirement years ago. After a lot of treatment I feel that I could do the job again. Royal Mail claim to be desabled friendly but are they?

they used to have some owner drivers at a large couriers I previously worked at.

as long as you get a round that includes either an industrial estate or a high Street you could struggle to get enough to pay yourself if the round is very spread out etc.

also, you will need to find cover for your walk when you want to take a holiday etc or pay RM to cover it for you.

Owner drivers can earn very good money (I am an employee but know many o/d's at my depot).you need to do over 100 drops a day to earn good money (parcelforce pay quite a good drop rate compared to yodel,Hermes etc).

The only down side is no holidays unless you get your route covered and the same with sickness as well.

If you are prepared to work hard you can earn well

I think you forgot to mention that you have to purchase a vehicle, tax it,insure it and maintain it.What about your pension? oh yeah and you have to lease computer equipment as well. The list goes on....

The older guys at our pfw depot seem happy enough with their routes but the new guys keep starting and leaving at quite a high rate. Some of ours work the odd sat morning.

Yodel and Hermes pay per parcel not per drop ,This can make a
Big difference .

there will always be a high turnover of new drivers because they are new they get the worst routes, the established guys have the best routes, its the same deal at most companies, personally dont understand it spend all that time and money recruiting and training someone and then give them an impossible route, crazy.
