re: Agree with most of the responses
Still in unemployed bliss so apologies for the continual rants and raves.
I actually agree with most of what was written since my post:
1. Working to rule won't cut it as Kawaski said. If I was still in Ops Mgmt I would be pretty piss*d off and I'd envoke the exec. action 'the thing at the bottom of the 318' I've forgottne the exact phrase.
2. RM's line about not realising how much would leave is also nonense. They have ten's of people who are highly paid working various models etc... So I agree with you on that and I know for a fact that the CEO amongst others was expecting at least 20% of total volume to go.
3. The competition will only be interested in high density areas. However, they have to pay more for those rural areas under the zonal tariff system. YOu might want a WTLL on that. It is something in Ops you wouldn't see, but has massive financial ramifications. RM should be making alot more of this on their internal spin to you guys, as it shows they are trying to protect RM's future and the USO.
4. Channel 4's programme was a limp attempt to find dirt, and actually was factually incoorect in places. However, it did highlight some grey areas in Ops. Another programme probably funded by the competition is not needed at the moment as the competititon solely rely on RM to deliver their mail.
Whilst RM's quality is the best ever no-one will be questioning RM's approach. I also think the future is about accepting that private companies will be better placed to collect, process and deliver mail in urban uniform areas as they will be starting with a fresh sheet of paper. RM suffers from legacy, unfit buildings etc... You may disagree, but give it about 5-10 years and the landscape will be noticeably different

But in my mind it might work as a first stage in slowly but surely increasing the pressure. Why, well if we follow their rules and even do what they say, fine, so long as you take your 20 min breaks at 830 and 1240 (if your a 5-1.00 postie) and finish and start at the correct times, following all the rules ie telling the manager when and why your cutting off, not using private cars, not taking extra bags out etc, It would show how much effort we underworked and overpaid posties put in. With regard to later start times, Im afraid I am a realist and this is coming eventually, however, I will vote against it if this goes to a vote on its own.1. Work to rule works, just read the on the vans thread,we've now got extra vans in and extra bods, and if it's lumpy we cut off!
I Wrote-During Covid-Which is still relevant now
It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

In the 318 It states .... AS REQUIRED..... And RM think that covers EVERYTHING....??? Wrong.... I always ask If My 318 ISNT being adhered to then who is doing my 318??? If no answer i carry on with wot im doing!! if the slime still tells me to do ....??? then i still ask the same Q until he tells me , Either "Im telling you to do it and its operational needs, " im telling you do it or i suspend you," I then say to both Q.... "I will wait till my Union rep tells me to do this as its NOT BEEN AGREED And i will be putting a Grievance in.. If he/she speaks to me in that degrading manor again... If the slime STILL TELLS ME, tHEN THIS IS IN MY opinion is HARASSMENT.. AS IVE ASKED HIM 2S Q's and havnt had a answer??? and are still being pressured against my will, Im not being out of order or offensive or withholding the mail or disobediant. Just asking Q THE SLIME CANT ANSWER!!! Not my fault the slime is to stupid to Answer me!!!!

pay deal
It seems that there is noboby on this planet that can touch management. They just come up with something and thats it. We are all stuffed.
In our office when they took away the nightshift a few of the guys where told that they would get their allowances protected for three years. Well three years r up and guess what, due to some "management" error RM r looking the money back. These guys are married have mortgages etc and the Muppets are looking them to pay back over 30 quid a week for the next year!!!!!!!!! and do management give a stuff!!!!!!!!!

Their allowances were protected for 3 years and now that 3 years are up,
they have to pay it all back ?
That don't sound right to me. have the union got involved ?
A lesson for us all here !

The slimey b'stards
Listen mate , get your rep to inform your branch secretary about
what RM are up to , they should be able to either advise your rep
as to what to do , or even get directly involved themselves.
What's hapening to your colleagues doesn't sound quite right to me,
I'm sure RM weren't loaning those allowances out !
Best of luck, cybergrinder.
Great name by the way.

Allowances
Hi cybergrinder,i agree with dirty harry, what is happening with your colleagues does not sound right. If they were duty holders and lost there jobs from revisions e.t.c through no fault of theres, then under pay protection they keep there allowance for 3 years,a different matter if they come of by there own choice, they then loose the allowance, this happened to the missus, her job(p.h.g.)was removed ,same thing happened they tried to pull a fast one but our area rep(dont have local one)sorted it out for her.Dont let this lie as thats a big old lump they will pay back ,when they may not have to.As dirty harry said get on to your area rep a.s.a.p.
GOOD LUCK JP

re: There have been cases of this before
I have heard of situations where company's make a financial mistake on payment and then try and recover it. I would seek legal advice on this from the union (centrally). I would also speak to HR as you should be entitled to advice as a company employee. Your HR Business Partner should be there to represent all employees.
I know this sounds theoretical and wish your mates the best with this one

Allowances
Of course if they have OVERPAID someone( ie if the 3 years is up and they carry on paying an allowance)then yes im affraid they will claw it back, just a shame that it got noticed by someone in wages
