CWU leaders have welcomed a letter from Canadian postal workers union, CUPW-STTP, supporting the CWU's campaign against the privatisation of Royal Mail.

Having learnt of the CWU's campaign to Save Our Royal Mail at a recent UNI global union world committee meeting, CUPW-STTP president, Denis Lemelin writes: "Royal Mail has a proud history as one of the world's most respected postal services. It has for years been a central figure in British society and has been a source of quality employment in the United Kingdom and Northern Ireland. We fully support your current struggle and the Save Our Royal Mail campaign to defeat privatisation.

"We join you in demanding that Royal Mail remains public," concluded Denis and pledged the solidarity of the CUPW-STTP's 50,000 members.

"Solidarity from one of our international counterparts is always appreciated," commented CWU general secretary Billy Hayes. "But in the case of CUPW-STTP it is all the more significant as they have first-hand experience of fighting against the privatisation of a beloved national postal service so the campaign to Save Our Royal Mail really resonates.

"Not only have Royal Mail and Canada Post both stared down the barrel of the privatisation gun but both have operated under Moya Greene's leadership who left the helm of Canada Post for the position at Royal Mail in 2010. They know what we are going through and we are grateful for their support and that of their members," said Billy.

The Save Our Royal Mail campaign continues to attract support and gather momentum. If you would like to add your support please visit Save Our Royal Mail to sign the e-petition and write to your MP

Maybe some lines of communications could be held with our Canadian counterparts, as we all know, Moya is responsible for much over there.
The union apparently nick named her 'Moya the Destroyer'.
Sometimes, I wish I wasn't a Rep.
