Nationally, I've been disappointed with the CWU's response to date. Hopefully they're hatching a cunning plan.

Locally, it's only myself and a couple of others who are doing anything to counter the flood of RM mis-information. And I'm not even the bloody rep.

Just a thought but whilst there remain unresolved issues between the CWU and the business, this, believe it or not is actually having a detrimental effect on the sale. Future owners do not want to have to negotiate with our union and face possible strike action thus impacting on profits.

Just today I had two items from RM to orchestrate the deal - one a card saying "The Facts" about the shares - all the pluses but no mention of holding on for 3 to 5 years - it did say though if the LSE didn't handle the sale there would be no shareholding. I can't think that anything the members can do short of striking that will halt the privatisation blurb from RM.

I believe that there may be some lack of real will with regard to CWU and it's stand against privatisation. On the surface they have opposed the move but when you think about it a private RM may not adversely affect CWU and if there is an attack on Terms and Conditions then it may actually add to the membership.

Aside from the ballot, some lobbying and the roadshow I have not seen a single initiative outlined by CWU that is likely to make RM or the Govt stop and think twice about what they are doing. I know it is a difficult situation as IA whilst putting off investors will also be regarded in a negative light by customers and the public, many of whom currently oppose privatisation but the bottom line is some form of action is needed quickly if only to publicise the issue and keep it current.

I am a little concerned that there has been no real sounds at all from the union.

They may be waiting until after school holidays, when mail volumes will go up.
But even if that is the case, they should be getting the message across to us to prepare for a vote.
Something as important as this can't and shouldn't be done in a rush.

Think we'll be out on strike before Christmas though, so that may help the fight against it.

There is a postal policy forum on the 31st July/1st August.
Our next move will come from that.
It will likely be IA.

In my opinion it probably should have been scheduled earlier but I think the idea was to allow time for meaningful dialogue over the pay deal.

I have no idea whether any real progress has been made but judging by the fact that RM are selling the rejected deal as the only deal on the table to members I think the chances of an improved offer are slim.

Meanwhile the privatisation bandwagon rolls on and if the union genuinely believes they can stop it they had better get their finger out because the membership are being battered by propaganda and are losing hope.

Public opinion is against the sale but i'm not convinced that alone is enough.

Correct, turning RM into a poisoned chalice is the only way of dissuading potential investors but the problem is, aside from losing public support, that the Tories will see it as a challenge and in Moya Greene they have a capable enforcer.

The only problem is everyone doesn't live in London and who in their right mind watches debates in Parliament? If there is to be a determined fight on privatisation then there has to be a much wider audience and there has got to be a something in that address that reinforces the public image of what the postal service is all about and what horror stories have come about on the privatisation of other de-nationalised industries. How about a flyer to every home in the land?

Yes I heard it too last night at Prdc that its a done deal. Will be interesting when 31st comes to see what happens especially when they wrote to us yesterday basically saying if the shares aren't sold on the stock market and sold privately we will not be getting our 10% .
