Lightweight trolleys and back strain.
Pulled my back at home on friday, unfortunately sat was a day off, so went to osteopath in town, who clearly sees a few from our office. Has a pretty clear view about the H&S implications of the increase in the use of trolleys - "How the f*** is it going to be a reduced risk to health if you are towing two bags of mail up and down the hills in this town, rather than carrying one bag. You are putting a major twisting strain on your lower back. If you must use them, push them from a central point on your body." Which is of course contrary to the advice given to us by our union and H&S rep.

Re: Lightweight trolleys and back strain.
Interesting post, a guy in our office has just come off a light weight trolley town round on to a rural round which involves quite a bit of bag carrying and he said the other day that his permanent bad back has now gone.
A coincidence? Or is more research needed?

me too, but my reasons were because I had my knees done. had to use it, but recently me and my mate have revised our duty and find it an advantage using the smaller bags. much easier with less hassle. then the fifty faced h&s rep told us to go back to using it. I did and found it to be detrimental to my back and shoulder. in pain and aching after a shift pulling it up and down streets. maybe because I was not using it much, but anyways,,,,i spotted the h&s rep doing EXACTLY the same as us. using the smaller bags or just a couple of bundles in a larger bag. so I told him to stick his trolley up his arris then went back to using bag on shoulder again. what's good for the goose etc. apparently most of the office DONT use them. its going back to the old ways I know. but nobody cares.blackbooks wrote:Pulled my back at home on friday, unfortunately sat was a day off, so went to osteopath in town, who clearly sees a few from our office. Re: Lightweight trolleys and back strain.
when you go on or off pavements the trolley nearly always twists and with only one bag on subsequently falls over which of course also twists your back

What I have stated in previous threads regarding the use of Lwt trolleys is now coming true. So much for the doubters.

I don't think enough research was done. a 16kg bag weight off the shoulder. 32kgs on a lwt. you',ve still got to pull it up gradients/hills etc. back shoulder and arm stress.Lincox wrote:What I have stated in previous threads regarding the use of Lwt trolleys is now coming true. The societies of consumption and squandering of material resources are incompatible with the idea of economic growth and a clean planet.

I can't believe there are little or no horror stories about health problems with the LWT's on here. We haven't had a revision in my office yet but i wanna know if posties are suffering with muscular skeleton problems due to them
