Royal Mail staff told to 'take up shares' by Keighley MP

One of the district’s MPs has urged Royal Mail employees to take advantage of a Government pledge to make ten per cent of the company’s shares available to them when it is privatised.

Former Bradford Council leader Kris Hopkins, the MP for Keighley, spoke in the House of Commons to remind MPs that more than 90 per cent of BT staff registered to participate in the share sell-off when that firm was transferred to the private sector.

And he asked Business Secretary Vince Cable: “Do you agree that everybody in this House, and outside, should encourage as many Royal Mail employees as possible to participate in and benefit from shares in a sale?” Responding, Dr Cable said he “totally” agreed with the Keighley MP.

“It is very much the Government’s intention to make the offer attractive to employees, while balancing the overall value for money for the Government and the interests of other stakeholders,” he said.

if i get shares from this, i'll be flogging them as soon as possible... i don't want nothing off royal mail... the way the company abuses and exploits you is beyond belief... and then try not to pay you for it..

Are the shares to be given for free in newspaper reports between £1500 and £2300. This would require the company to be sold to private buyers or the public for less than its worth or future potential. I would not accept less than £4500 worth of free shares that I could sell at a time of my choosing. If every man has a price including Dave Ward ( on £140,000 ) , its £4500, to the public its the loss of the universal service. £4500 will not be given.
