Boycott competitors mail, not all mail.

Its part of the putting pressure on RM HQ. I honestly think there is no chance of the CWU boycotting DSA, its a legal minefield and could end up with the Unions finances being sequestered. As Fishtank says, the most likely action is a strike and that means no mail will be moving.

Both sides are now jostling for position - its going to a very interesting next 7 days.

The CWU want a no strings above inflation pay rise.
Royal Mail have always insisted and continue to insist on more strings than the London Philharmonic.
Do you really think we won't end up on strike?

Even if we didn't strike do you think Royal Mail will just agree a pay rise and a resolution to the outstanding issues including pensions without also expecting the threat of a boycott to be removed?

Personally I hope that if they do call a strike that the leadership show some bottle and stick it out - if they fold after two days with an "interim agreement" they will be finished. As for RM insisting it's a closed offer then the union should have said "you are offering a deal to the members of the CWU who we represent and they have every right to know the details and we intend to inform them". We should hope the above inflation deal is for each of the 3 years and not an aggregate over the 3 years.

It would have been surprising if they hadn't gone to court if they feared the boycott was a threat to business.
The idea that any companies would immediately choose to switch their business away from RM would be too much for them to countenance.

I don't want to jump the gun here but should a boycott of DSA happen what would happen in the following:

2 people sharing a van - 1 union member boycotting DSA and 1 non union member who cant.

The union guy doesn't prep any DSA and but the other has to. What happens on delivery? Does the union guy just return any DSA he comes across on the other guys walk?

There is no can't.

Non union members have the same protection in legal industrial action as Union members do. So non Union members should act on their own conscience just as Union members should.

surely its down to tnt and others, to deliver, they took the contracts to deliver, not us so i dont see why why should be told to deliver, the companies should be taking competitors to court for failing to deliver not rm ??

Lets just for arguments sake say there was a boycott of DSA - it would surely be boycotted at the MC/Hub and shouldn't reach the DO should it? Whatever the outcome it would need to be delivered sooner or later. I remember a strike some years ago when an advert appeared in the paper seeking a large number of agency workers to deliver mail - I went, not to deliver mail but to apply for other work for which I had a skill, to see what the take up was like - I'm pleased to say there was no huge queues but of course times are different and there may be a bigger take up. I would imagine RM have something in the offing though.

Or perhaps 1 117 people wanted a much higher pay rise for much longer.
Maybe they didn't support the CWU pay claim because they didn't think it was enough.

On balance, I think cinemasaint's comment is the more likely.
