Privitasation, The Public, Politictians and The Union

Post by dogfood »

The sell-off, which the government hopes to conclude within a year, has already been labelled "poisonous" by the leading rightwing thinktank the Bow Group. In a letter to every Tory MP, Ben Harris-Quinney, chairman of the Bow Group, said the government should call off the sale. It would be deeply unpopular with voters, he said.

Source The Guardian.

Here in lies the main source of defence for keeping RM in public hands. As far as I can see the union are missing the opportunity to really get the message across to the public.

The only reason there will be a back tracking of the bid to privatise is if those currently in power feel that their position and their nose in the trough is threatened.

I suggest the Union rather than spend money sending union members leaflets every other week telling us what we already know. They spend the money putting the case in a clear simple matter of fact manner on a leaflet that we distribute as a D2D. If RM won't take the contract to deliver as D2Ds they ask if each postman would deliver his particular route in his own time. That way every address in the UK gets the information. The majority of the public will then fully understand why any industrial action is being taken.

The union employed a PR company who influenced the BOW group and is influencing a number of other groups and it is working, the result of the consultation ballot will allowed the CWU to then widen the campaign to the public and to apply pressure on MPs especially those in rural areas.

The CWU has beaten 3 past attempts to privatise the ROyal Mail and we are confident of defeating it again.

the Tory government ( THE DICTATORSHIP) need to understand there is no reason at ALL.. to privatize the ROYAL MAIL.. and they know it... the Tories will never get my vote for them... there human beings, with greed beyond greed... and only think about themselves..... and not the public or the hard working people work so tirelessly hard for this company... SHAME ON THE TORY GOVERNMENT ... your a disgrace to this country...........

Dingo, Why does a consultation ballot have to take place before widening the campaign to the public ?

The whole profile of RM privatisation needs to be raised to raise customer awareness as so far much of it is slipping below the radar.

CWU need to do more to inform the general public and business customers alike ... maybe a pamphlet outlining the issues, sponsored and written by CWU and delivered to every address in the country by OPGs on their rounds ... some D2D that RM may wish to fail it's QofS target :)

Forgive me if I am wrong but didn't the labour want to sell the Royal Mail first and also they have said they will nationalise if they get back in power?

You are forgiven but you are not completely wrong.

Labour, through the Dark Lord (Peter Mandleson) wanted to PART privatise us - I think they were looking at 30% to 50%, and the Conservatives tried 2 or 3 times before once in the 80s under Maggie, and at least once under John Major.

As to Nationalising us, they haven't committed to that however the Union are trying to get that commitment, but I don't think they'll get it. Labour are I believe currently against Full Privatisation as are parts of the Far Right of the Conservative Party such as the Buller Group and the Country Side Alliance IIRC.

I think you are right, and they should withdraw any funding from Labour as a Party, and only support those Mps who are willing to support us.

Replace Thames Water with Royal Mail x years from now if this goes through:-
http://www.huffingtonpost.co.uk/2013/06 ... _hp_ref=uk" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

and this Classic Comment too:- 'So the management get extra bonus for managing not to pay tax, But the British taxpayer is charged extra to raise the capital for investment, and basically the company keep the investment money received ( £5 million ) given to them by the tax payer!
(Thatcher never calculated this rip-off into the sell-off deals,) all the revenue, all the tax payers cash, all the customers being ripped off, all the lost corporation tax, all going to Australian investors.' italics mine

But Labour made promises to renationalise the railways when they got back in-& guess what-it never happened!

As soon as they got back in in '97 they realised how expensive it would be and thought 'naah don't think we'll bother'. :cry

History repeats itself with the Royal Mail. The railways freight side had a universal obligation(the common carrier obligation) which just meant that road hauliers could cream off the(profitable)bits they wanted & not bother with the rest.

the biggest losers would be people who lived in remote and rural areas,
typical tory voters,most of them
so this sell-off,would hit the rank and file tory supporter
giving the threat from UKIP over europe and immagration
you would think that the last thing Cameron would want to do ,would be to upset them
