Royal Mail sell-off to take step forward with appointment of administrator for employee share scheme, Sky News understands.
The privatisation of Royal Mail will take another step forward on Thursday when the company hands over responsibility for creating one of Britain’s biggest-ever employee share ownership schemes.
I understand that Royal Mail will announce that Equiniti, one of the UK’s largest providers of corporate back office services, has won the contract to create the scheme, which will involve handing free or discounted shares to tens of thousands of workers.
The appointment comes weeks after Michael Fallon, the Business Minister overseeing the sell-off plans, fired the starting gun on the process that is likely to result in a stock market listing for Royal Mail.
Equiniti’s role will involve acting as registrar and administrator of the share scheme, with ministers still undecided about the precise form that it will take.
The Government has pledged that 10% of Royal Mail’s shares will be handed to staff, potentially involving a windfall of more than £1000 for every employee of the state-owned postal services company.
Sky News revealed last month that Whitehall officials were debating whether employees of Royal Mail subsidiaries in France and Germany would be included in the share handout.
Postal workers are likely to be forced to hold onto their shares for some time in the event of a stock market listing. A period in which selling would be restricted would, ministers hope, prevent an immediate slump in Royal Mail’s share price.

This sounds like it will be the same as to what happened when I worked for British Gas at the time of their privatisation,we were unable to sell the shares for two years and we paid tax on them if we sold them after two years,if we held onto them for the full period ie three years then we didn't pay any tax,so watch this space.

Nothing more then a bribe, to convince us to shaft ourselves, which appears to be diminishing at an incredible rate.
