My view has always been:
1. The national mail is a a service, that's not to say that it shouldn't be profitable, but that it should run primarily for the benefit of it's customers.
2. The business should be retained as a national asset for the benefit of the taxpayer. If investment is required let the Govt provide it as it has in the past on terms that are mutually acceptable.
3. The main issues with RM have been the regulation of the industry, there needs to be a level playing field that includes DSA customers paying for the service that they use, other carriers having the target and penalties as RM, and a uniform approach to the application of VAT.
4. The review of RM's managerial structure leading to a proactive forward thinking group who work as one with those further down the pyramid and the union that represents them towards mutually agreed business goals.
