The CWU are fighting for your future. Do you really think your terms and conditions won't be attacked if Royal Mail is sold by either an IPO or to a CVC a rutherless private equity firm. There is no doubt that MTSF would be off the table and complusory redundancies a real option.

Now the CWU have less then 4 months to defeat the sell off. You can either support this fight or fight yesterday's battles it is really up to you !

We all have not like things about the past but you can only shape the future or let someone shape it for you.

A lot better than his last TV interview,managed to get the main points across clearly.Though not clear on how Save Our Royal Mail and the CWU have even half a chance of stopping the sale going ahead.

Micharl Fallon on the other hand is captain bluffer he barely disguises his lack of knowledge of Royal Mail and the regulator,as for modernising,yeah we gave them a PDA as big as a brick and made them run around a lot .

Dave ward has improved his game, but he needs to put on a tie while being interviewed. He needs to apeal to the rural middle class who I believe have the most to lose - motivate them and you've got a powerful allie against the privatisation of RM

Dingo I will always support the Cwu, but I think any fight is a futile exercise now, this is going to happen it is too far down the road now . How at this stage do you think the Cwu would be able to stop the sale?

Ok, a bit condescending but I will promise to do as you suggest, as long as our leaders promise to try and learn from "Yesterday's Battles" because if they don't the Union will start slipping into obscurity and irrelevance.

We're still fighting yesterday's battles because yesterday's problems are still with the membership.
We don't get to wash our hands of the deal once the negotiation is done,we have to live with the deals.
We're still fighting battles over P&M 2007 flexibility,absorption and banking hours and we're obviously right in the middle of a massive fight over BT2010 so perhaps if HQ wasn't so quick to move on to the next battle before it made sure the last one was over we might also have a chance to move on.

I will support this fight and continue to fight yesterday's battles and the day before's battles because unlike HQ I don't get a chance to draw a line under each deal.

Spot on Fish, I will carry on the fight and continue to support the union also, it's worrying though that Dingo no doubt be a top knob in the union does not carry our concerns, being a local rep and having the heart to follow and try and educate members is becoming almost unbearable now, it's such a shame not only is the CWU losing it's members support but thier reps too, i can't go on much longer as in truth at a local level it's starting to effect my mental health and the help from the top is deafining

Looked like a good gig,i was thinking more of a cover version of "You Can't Always Get what You Want" by the Rolling Stones!

Fish and TBT , I have argued over loads of national agreements with Heaquarters including the faults of BT2010 but the point I was making is that privatisation is the biggest attack we will face and will drawf what we face now.

Lets thing for a second what any buyer will do. This years Royal Mail accounts show that despite a turn over of 9.8 billion , Royal Mail made an operating profit after modernisation costs of 211 million. Of which GLS made 128 million (61 per cent ) Post Office Limited made 23 million , UK PIL made 1 million and other costs made 59 million.

Anyone who buys into this company will have to dramatically cut costs to increase profits and the biggest share of those costs are staff costs and you know no private company will want to honour national and local agreements such as MTSF etc.

The point I was making there is roughly 4 months to beat the sell off and that we have to concentrate on the future rather then on the past.

And the point I was making was that if you engage the members over a Privatisation fight and attempt to sweep the problems and failures of previous deals under the carpet they are likely to tell you to shove your fight where the sun don't shine.
That would be a disaster for all of us.

Despite the show of solidarity and defiance at conference those were reps and branch officials many of whom have been insulated from the problems with BT2010 they were not members,Members,especially in delivery have taken a battering lately and they feel that even with privatisation it can't get much worse,In fact some are actually looking forward to a little retribution in the form of inevitable management culls.

Of course the truth is it will get much,much worse if we are privatised but getting that message across to a demotivated,demoralised workforce is going to be incredibly difficult.

The only option open to the CWU is honesty and openness,not more bluster,bullshit and drum beating from the same area reps,branch officials and national officers that worked so hard to sell BT2010 to the members in the first place.
