Please find attached for the information of Branches and representatives a Joint Statement which provides an update in regard to the current pay negotiations taking place with Parcelforce Worldwide.

JOINT STATEMENT

Progress of talks on Pay Award 2013

As part of the Past and Continuing Reward Agreement for 2012, both parties made a joint commitment to the next pay and reward review discussions being targeted to conclude by the end of January 2013 and effective from April 2013.

Since those discussions, we have continued to meet regularly where the focus of our discussions has been on the opportunities for growth, as part of the Expansion Plans. During those discussions there has been a further opportunity identified to accelerate the Expansion Plans considerably and the business has been working hard to develop a robust strategy that will secure the release of the investment early. This would in effect bring forward the plans for new and replacement depots within the next year to create much needed capacity and we are working together to develop and deploy this and other elements of the PFW expansion agenda, i.e. the North West Processing Centre (NWPC), Project Advance (IT) etc.

This news has been welcomed by both the business and the Union and as such has created the need for further detailed talks which have prevented us from meeting our original aspiration to conclude the 2013 pay and reward review by the end of January 2013.

The recent communications confirming the continuing development of Royal Mail as a Parcels and Letters Business makes no difference to the status of Parcelforce Worldwide as a separate business under the corporate umbrella, or the focus being given to our on-going talks.

Against that backdrop we have agreed this joint statement to assure you that these discussions remain a priority for both of us and that they are progressing in both a positive and productive manner. Equally, we also confirm that we remain committed to having concluded talks on a new reward package in advance of the April 2013 due date for implementation.

To be honest last years rise was good compared with others around us but feel we deserve it coz we are getting busier and busier
