Employee shares
While I appreciate this is an unofficial forum I feel this is best place to post my question.
I am constantly reading comments from RM employees that they do not agree with price increases and how they see no portion of profits.
It may be of interest to many that the government can privatise 90% of RM and 10% goes to employees.
Hmmmm
Sounds like a portion to me and also a conflict of interests with the only winners being RM and its Staff at the customers expense.
Be interested to hear your views
Of course the privatisation is to cover the huge pension pot of the staff

Re: Employee shares
Huge pension pot for the staff
Is that the same pension pot that the government took from us and then sort of said that they might pay it out in the future
As for the shares............I'll not be buying them so I'm not going to be getting any benefit from them.

Re: Employee shares
You may not be and that is your choice but my point is that you have the opportunity and US, the customer does not.
We also have no choice but to pay the prices which ultimately goes to the share owners.
As said by many, not like we have a choice.
I think many if us should remember that next time we hear tongue in cheek sympathy over the counter

Re: Employee shares
Take it up with the government, I've been fighting privatisation for 10 years and some on here have been fighting for much longer, in case you haven't been keeping up on events, some of us have tried hard but the governments just want to sell us off to their mates for a slice of the pie.Dissatisfied wrote:You may not be and that is your choice but my point is that you have the opportunity and US, the customer does not.

Re: Employee shares
The projected value of the the employee shares is around £2,000.Dissatisfied wrote:Sounds like a portion to me and also a conflict of interests with the only winners being RM and its Staff at the customers expense.
Do you honestly think we want to see the company ripped to shreds, sold off in bits, jobs destroyed, contracts torn up,terms and conditions dragged down to the lowest common denominator by some Investment Trust company all for a measly £2,000.
Wise up.
good times, bad times you know I've had my share

Re: Employee shares
We are aware of that, in fact we have a whole section on privatisation - and most of us oppose it. Also they haven't decided if we will get free shares, or have to buy them - if we have to but them I think the Government would be shocked on the low take up.Dissatisfied wrote:While I appreciate this is an unofficial forum I feel this is best place to post my question.

It won't be a portion of the profits though thats not how it works. Its a proportion of the dividends and thats affected by the share price and how much the "City" thinks the company is worth. Also profit on something is in of itself not a good guide, turn over and market share are also important and both of this are taking a big hit with this new price rise.Dissatisfied wrote:Sounds like a portion to me and also a conflict of interests with the only winners being RM and its Staff at the customers expense.
Good you'll get themDissatisfied wrote:Be interested to hear your views
Sorry thats untrue - the deficit was as the result of changes in pension law by Gordon Brown ( a pink tory IMHO) and it ignores the £26 billion assets the fund had. The £8 billion deficit was taken on by the government because they realised no one would be willing to take on a business with such a large deficit so they took it on - £26 billion in assets and £8 billion in deficits means government got its hands on £18 billion that it could knock off the national deficit.Dissatisfied wrote:Of course the privatisation is to cover the huge pension pot of the staff

Re: Employee shares
Well as originally posted, I did post to hear your views.
My post was a statement of fact and my views, no wising up needed this end, I also didn't say or expect you all to approve but bet many do.
Yes, employees may be aware but I wonder how many customers are. I cannot see any reason why the hell employees should you get them free.
Another kick in the nuts for joe bloggs if that happens, can't believe that is even considered.

Re: Employee shares
We,the employees will probably end up taking Industrial Action and losing money to fight this privatisation for which no doubt we will be labelled as lazy and incompetent.
What do you intend to do or indeed sacrifice to fight privatisation?

Yes you do - its takes a bit of work but there are competitors out there who offer better prices and better tracking.Dissatisfied wrote:You may not be and that is your choice but my point is that you have the opportunity and US, the customer does not.

Well that's odd because the "tongue in cheek" comments I presume are from Post Office staff. Neither Crown Post Offices, or Sub Post Offices are part of Royal Mail, and sub post offices get paid a fixed cost per transaction, they don't get any of the profit at all. Also when Royal Mail is privatised, the Post Office won't be so they won't be share holders and they won't get dividends unless HMG do a share issue and they buy them.Dissatisfied wrote:I think many if us should remember that next time we hear tongue in cheek sympathy over the counter
So there is no "tongue in cheek" sympathy - its genuine.
If I may be so bold, it may be worth genning up on the rest of the board, and then form an opinion based on knowledge rather than random thoughts garnered from the press.

Re: Employee shares
It refers to being told to wise up above and referring to comment on free shares.
I hope some customers are reading this as, as expected, very biased.
Maybe this forum should be restricted to employees only

Why? You have come on here and started whining and have now got the hump because you don't like the answers............why don't you complain to someone who cares, David Camoron will surely listen to a fine, upstanding member of the community like yourselfDissatisfied wrote:It refers to being told to wise up above and referring to comment on free shares.

They don't come for free.Dissatisfied wrote: I cannot see any reason why the hell employees should you get them free.
They come with job cuts and a worsening of our terms and conditions, possibly the wholesale carve up of the business.
Would you happily trade your future terms and conditions and possibly even your job for the price of one family holiday?

The facts in your first post were:
1. This is an an unofficial forum.
2. Most of us disagree with the price rise.
A statement that the Government want to privatise 90% of Royal Mail is partially correct - they wan't to privatise up to 90% a small but significant difference.
The rest is opinion - and there are many quotes on opinions and none of them need be repeated here.
