In response to claims that privatisation could wreck our postal service, I wanted to point out that, in 2011, parliament passed the Postal Services Act, which set a framework for private investment in Royal Mail.

Private investment will still allow Royal Mail to continue to deliver a six-days-a-week service at a uniform price across the country. Royal Mail has an opportunity to grow.

While we all now send fewer letters, the growth in online retailing has meant an increase in the number of parcels.

We already have the largest UK delivery network and we are one of the most trusted UK firms.

But we need to make significant investment to stay ahead of the competition. The Government's financial position means that this investment must come from the private sector.

Private investment will allow Royal Mail to grow our parcels business. This will help us continue to deliver the universal service.

The finances of Royal Mail have been transformed in recent years. We now make a good profit. That enables us to continue to provide a quality rural postal service. There is a brighter future for Royal Mail and we're ready to deliver it.

Obviously those senior managers who wish the onset of privatisation will be looking for a very nice payoff when the dirty deed is done just like those who presided over BT, water, electricity and the trains.
Management to workers ratio will definitely be reduced unfortunately the managers at the top will be well recompensed for their dealings in selling of part of the country's Crown Jewels.
The Postal Act did not protect Royal Mail from cherry picking of DSA until a campaign by the CWU and Royal Mail. fancy that union and management on the same side, but the difference is one is for their back pocket the other for public service.
The country in 2008 paid out hundreds of billions of pounds to bail out privatised banks, in fact they have nationalised some of those banks to save the system. RBS ( nationalised) just made 826 million pounds in the last quarter.Now its been announced that now Royal Mail is making substantial money capitalists want to make a quick buck and sell it off, not worrying about the future effect upon postal services in the country. The latest Ofcom report regarding end to end does not address the cherry picking of profitable areas which is exactly what happened with DSA. Ofcom does what the government of the day says just like Postcom!
Nationalised industries can be run at a profit its just been proved yet greedy rich people want their cake and eat it.
