Royal Mail share ownership scheme welcomed

Plans to award Royal Mail employees around £2,000 worth of shares in the firm when it is part-privatised have been welcomed.

As WSB previously reported, Business Secretary Vince Cable has already deemed that 10% of the share holding in the firm should be reserved for its staff.

And it now appears this could be worth at least £2,000 to each employee.

A report in The Sun revealed that Whitehall estimates value the Royal Mail at £3bn, but it could be as much as £4bn according to some in the City.

The report added that Ministers hoped to begin the sell-off by the autumn, but officials were finalising details of the share scheme and it was yet to be decided how much of the business the Government would keep.

That's what I was thinking.

They really don't get it do they? Can't see anything but the tiniest minority keeping their shares to earn dividends. They also seem to hold the opinion that we would somehow be more willing to accept crap pay deals and worsening conditions for what amounts to very little money.

Thinking the same thing, they must think we have a short memory with what happened to colleague shares, be the same with these one's ooooo they're worth 2 grand but you can't sell them for 2 years, then whoops shares are worth zero cause so much money has been invested etc, just another carrot to be shafted even more.
