Hi, I'm new to this board and have joined because I am keen to hear other customer's views on the changes to the postal costs? I'm an on-line retailer and use the Royal Mail's services a lot - I am however shocked at the price hikes for some parcels and this will have a large impact on my business and I don't want to pass on the price rise to my customers. I regulalry used the 'Packet' service which has now dissapeared
This morning I used a courier service instead, as this was a much cheaper way of despatching my parcels and the lady behind the counter in the 'drop-shop' told me that they had been frantically busy this week - much more so than usual. This must be because other people like me are having to find an alternative service. I'm saddened that RM have made these changes and I for one think that they will lose a lot of business from small online retailer like me - does anyone else feel the same?
Hello.I am an ebay seller and a retired post office counter clerk,everything i have sent in the past has been by royal mail via my local post office counter.If i continue to send items like this i would lose money on almost every transaction.It really pains me that i will now have to use other couriers for my items.A very sad day as i know a lot of other sellers are now not going to use their post offices.If i was cynical i could almost belive that this was a political act.How they have destroyed one of our most valued and loved organisations!!!

Agreed. Surely not driving your car to the shops to buy the item and the amount you will of saved shopping for the cheapest deal surely the buyers would subsidise postage costs!?
Hi, I agree that I certainly shouldn't be out of pocket and I do charge a flat rate postal charge to my customers which means that on some parcels I win and others I don't, however as we all know postage costs are very immotive and my experience with online retail seems to indicate that, that the amount a customer has to pay for postage has a large impact on who they buy from and 'online' is a very competitive market. What I am struggling to understand is WHY the post office have made these dramatic changes - it's clearly to make more money and as a business person I understand that, however it just seems to me that this has not been thought through properly as us online retailers will have to go elsewhere so they will lose a lot of business- which is a real shame as my local post office staff are fantastic.

Best option is give the seller both options on your eBay product! It will soon show you weather it is saving money or dependability they the buyers want

Also I belive if you get a packet post account with Royal Mail it will bring your prices down!

I believe PPI (pre paid item) accounts get a 20-25% discount, and if you post enough(don't know how much is required), you may qualify for a free collection.
