PRIVATISATION

when privatiation was all the rage under the thatcher government in the eighties, why did all the top people in the utilities get fantastic benifits from it, whilst the humble employee got wages cuts and loss of terms and conditions? it has always puzzled me!!!!

in my humble opinion its because it was a case of scratch my back and I'll scratch yours.

You can't get a large organisation privatised without the bosses at the top being fully behind it, and they won't be fully behind it without getting some form of compensation.

The workers always get a bad deal because they realise that privatisation is bad for their terms and conditions and the bosses and politicians recognise this so to beat down any talk against their joint dream of a better company, or rather a big pay out. They attack the terms and conditions of workers, they ramp up the pressure on long term staff and change the job beyond recognition, the introduce new language and new ways of working to alienate older/longer serving employees and they pay lip service only to claims of bullying and harassment. This is all to reduce the headcount as efficiently and as cheaply as possible.

Come on we all know that privatisation was going to be the main goal of any government that pursues neoliberal policies.
Tories, Lib rats and the parliamentary Labour Party want the service privatised so it will happen. The directors at the top and senior managers will be on for golden handshakes when complete. True that we will see a smaller workforce and that working conditions will be where the management will get their savings from. So what are you doing about it?
Over the last decade the Union has successfully defeated privatisation with the help of public opinion. however in the middle of this recession privatisation of Royal Mail will not get the people on the streets. So it comes to getting the workers the best deal that can be had.
Everyone bangs on about what can be done yet when a chance appears like the forming of a new political party from within the trade union movement it turns into a Monty Python sketch!

A party that stands for workers, comprehensive education, 2 tier academic and vocational higher education, living wage, nationalised transport system, nationalised utilities, national apprenticeship scheme, national bank owned by the people to lend to SMEs, NHS fully public, reversal of compulsory retirement age ( 1 million youth unemployed there has to be a correlation ) and income tax set at a rate that pays for it all.(like Sweden)
