Colleagues at the Heathrow Worldwide Distribution Centre (HWDC) had a double reason to celebrate when chief executive Moya Greene presented them with two awards.
Moya was joined by Herbert Zapf, CEO of the International Post Corporation (IPC), to present colleagues with their IPC certificate of excellence.
External experts evaluated how HWDC have organised their work, quality management and customer relationships. It’s taken three years of hard work for the centre to achieve the accreditation. ‘The staff have worked really hard to achieve this and we are delighted to receive the recognition,’ said Mike Sibley, plant manager.
The award recognises the work of two units; Maria Paterson, from HWDC, and Kerry Richards, from the London Airmail Unit, accepted the certificates on behalf of their teams.
Fantastic
Moya also presented Mike with the World Class Mail Bronze award, which the centre has now achieved. They scored 52 points in their Bronze audit, the joint highest score for a Bronze award in Royal Mail. ‘The people here have done fantastically well to achieve these awards. It shows what people are capable of when they work together to a shared goal,’ Moya said.
She had a tour of the facility, which was built in 2000 and is the only fully automated site in Royal Mail. The seven miles of conveyors carry more than 6.4 million items every week including two million parcels, which go through its parcel-sorting machine. There are more than 2,000 people, spanning 77 nationalities, working 24 hours a day to export mail to 269 destinations worldwide.

Not one for 'our' customer forum then?

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

Most of the mail we see day to day is merely a figment of our clearly over active imaginations. Much like I suspect this years pay rise will be.

wonder if we'll get an award as we consistently receive the most customer complaints in the east
