Would you help a competitor?

Post by POSTMAN »

Out today a FedEx dude asked me for directions, his sat nav thingy was wrong
Just wondering,if you were out and one of the others,TNT,Business Post or one of the other scab firms asked you for help what would you do?

I have to be honest , and it wouldn't be anything personal against the guy , but if I knew where
he was going, I'd send him in the opposite direction. :evil/mad

Up to now, I've only been stopped for directions by competitors a couple of times, and both times
they were so off the beaten track I didn't have an earthly as to where they wanted to get to. :d'oh!

We are helping the competitor every day by delivering their mail for them :d'oh!

But if one stopped me in the street and asked me directions, it would depend on where they were going and if I knew the way. I could possibly send them via scotland to get to kent though :Very Happy

Fedex should only be delivering parcels (express). Calling them scab firms is a bit harsh as it's not as though they are corssing a picket line to do it.

There is no doubt that when a competitor enters into a new market that the quality of service drops. It's usually a question of whether and how quickly they can improve this. If they do not then customers will come back to RM, or possibly a more successful competitor.

I make it a point of not helping any TNT drivers who ask for help on directions.

The firm is one thing and the people working for them another. As a postman I have sympathy with anyone doing a difficult job with crappy equipment and no support from their bosses.

But I have no doubt the bosses of these companies are just as big a load of self-interested, self-serving, lying, cheating arseholes as the lot we've got. I wouldn't piss on them if they were on fire.

We shouldn't be letting all this crap we're getting from our own screws about competition change our attitude about other working people who deserve a bit of respect as well.

We've a lot less to fear from the competition than we do our own managers - it isn't drivers at TNT or FEDEX telling me I've got to work harder for less money -- and I'll their gaffers are telling them exactly the same thing.

Just happened to be a FedEx driver,i know what they deliver ect,and the scab thing and the thread tbh was a bit tongue in cheek.
And i fully agree with side_door.

I'm right about the firms though as these people are exactly what sidey said.
As for their workers, agree with sidey again,no doubt they are worse off than us,poor sods.
And for the record no,i wouldn't show them the wrong way ect,i'd plug this site and get them on here :Very Happy :nana

You will find the competition are mainly owned by shareholders. RM is only different in that the Government own the shares (at the moment!) Therefore as I stated in the pension debate your salary that goes into this pension fund is managed and invested into private companies. Wouldn't it be amusing if you found out that they had invested in TNT/Fedex or Deutschepost for that matter. You might be investing to cannibalise your own jobs now that would be peverse.

As a rural driver (I know some of you probably don't count Sussex as rural - but to us simple folk it is ) I'm happy to help out the regular guys - we pass each other several times each day and often have a chat when we pull up at the same place together.

I also know that if anything unfortunate should happen to either me or the van, then they would stop and assist - and I would also.

However, when I'm covering one of the town walks - then that's a different matter - "sorry mate, don't normally work here - can't help you!"
