3 Month Temporary Contract Question ?

Post by Oscarcat »

Hi

Starting very shortly as a Postman with a 3 month temporary contract.

Hopefully it will be extended beyond that period as time goes on, as I believe no one get a a permanent contract straight away these days.

However in my contract under "Period of Employment" it states the following :-

"The reason for your contract being fixed term is that it is anticipated the requirement for your employment is likely to cease on or about the expiry date because of business reorganisation.

This date reflects our expectation of when the need for your services is likely to come to an end but this could be sooner or later. If sooner, notice will be given under Clause 13."

Does anyone know is if this is just the standard clause which they use for short term contracts ?

Anyone out there recently been take on with a temporary contract , and if so did you have this clause in your contract ?

It would be good to know if this wording applies just to me.

Thanks !!

Yes it is - its a standard legal requirement in temporary contracts I believe.

By law the business must give an expected termination date and a reason why the contract is a fixed term or specified-purpose contract.
Business Re-organisation is as handy an excuse as any.
If previous re-organisation is anything to go by you'll be here until retirement, although hopefully not on a fixed term contract.
good times, bad times you know I've had my share

I must admit I'm starting to sweat a bit. After this week I'll be on holiday for 3 weeks then when I return it'll be only 3 weeks until my 6 month contract comes to an end. It would be great if I get another 6 months contract but even better if I get a permanent one. As it looks at our DO though people have only been getting permanent contracts after they've been there for a couple of years. With all this talk of privatization it's making me wonder if they'll keep any of the newbies on. :nervous

Well i started back in november last year on a 3 month contract and i'm still there, i've also been told to book holidays for the 2013/2014 financial year. I'm assuming they keep rolling the contacts over, seems to be the easiest way for the RM to get rid of you once you start messing up =D
