Part-time permanent to Full-time

Post by scildi »

Is there a procedure of some kind to upgrade to a full-time permanent contract? I have been part-time permanent contracted for 5 years. I have seen two other guys get full-time contracts before they reached the 5 year mark and they both had road accidents with several lost packets and even a special that was lost. I have had no accidents or incidents with an impeccable delivery history. I am also from another country and suspect that I am being treated as a second class employee.

It depends on how it works in your office but seniority should apply when there is a vacancy for a full time position. In other words unless the vacant position is a skill based job then the person who has been there the longest, and who has applied for it should get it.

If your in the Union then approach them, and if the local rep won't help go over their head. If you are not in the Union then you have other options available such as grievance against the manager, Employment Tribunal for unfair treatment, in fact given the bare bones of your post there may even be a case of discrimination.

Whatever has happened you do need help, either from the Union or from an outside agency.

Good luck.
