Previous Jobs/ Professions

Post by mickeymacca »

Hi All,
Five years in and a recent convert to the Forum. Like many I was only doing the job as a stop-gap, while I qualified to be an a Accountant. I absolutely love the job and have n't had that Sunday night feeling of dread in all my time. Despite qualifying sometime ago I won't be working in Finance anytime soon. Just wondered what professions anyone else on the Forum may have previously worked in and if there are any ridiculously overqualified posties out there (I know of a few posties with Masters degrees).

I worked in an office for 25 years as a Purchase Ledger Clerk. After doing this job there's no way I could or would want to go back into an office. I also know what you mean about that 'Sunday night feeling' I no longer get it either, I actually enjoy getting up now and going to work. :dance

I've made a few changes to my "career" path, and have a background in Accountancy and Procurement. I've had well paid but highly pressurised jobs controlling staff and large budgets.............. and I absolutely hated Mondays.

I now earn less p/h than I did 25 years ago, but have reached a stage in my life when money isn't the be all and end all. Now my life revolves around achieving a good work/life balance and working p/t for the RM fits in very nicely. I've been in the job for less than a month and for the first time in decades Mondays no longer hold any trepidation. :dance

Hopefully it'll stay that way
I am no longer a number :-)

Thats reassuring to hear from both of you, as there can be a bit of negativity on this forum (justifiably so), especially as you have both worked in an environment I was planning to work within. If you have recently joined and you like it you will love the job in the summer, when it really is one of the best jobs going..... :dance
