Got to agree with you there.I've always said RM just pay lip service to the union over counter proposals, then just carry on with their plans anyway....postbox wrote:Spoke to a senior rep at Leicester Mail Centre who is involved with putting in our branch counter proposals the reps there are working on them and finalise them, I work on deliveries he told me he thinks they will shut, and that Royal Mail are knocking back all the regional counter proposals, and they are stating that it is business policy not to consider inward offices, so looks like Leicester MC will close and on that stance/policy unless Royal mail have a drastic rethink, every Mail centre will close that is earmarked for closure despite all the nice talk of consulation and counter proposals.

Re: Midland Mail Centres Review - 90 day consultation!
RM has made no secret of the fact that it wants to reduce the number of MCs by half from the quoted figure of 64. So we can expect the final figure to be around 32-35 by the time the closure programme is finished in 2016-17. Although there is a 90 process followed by another 90 day period, it has already been decided which are going to close so the best that can be achieved is delay to ensure that changes to jobs and duties can be managed. There have so far been no closures announced that have been changed. It does seem surprising that the process won't be finished for a further 5 years, this is probably due to the sheer up front cost and the time taken to plan all the changes.
Only areas I think are left to do are the South West, Anglia and Wales. This assumes there will be no closures in Scotland which seem unlikely.

Anglia will be interesting.....dodger162 wrote:Only areas I think are left to do are the South West, Anglia and Wales.
The rumour of PE & CB joining into a NEW MC to be build at Alconbury (near A1/A14 junction) hasn't been put to bed yet.....
IP will probably go in with CM
NR will probably be safe on it's own in it's wonderful 4-storey building!!!
The others - somebody with coloured pens and pie charts knows!!!

Does anyone know when these closures will be finalised then and a timetable be released?

This might be interesting evn thru it is based in the South East but Gatwick might be closed and merged with Croydon in Godstone because the airport if given the go-ahead with the 2nd runway would want the land that MC is on as that is where the runway is going to be. Also whats the news on the PO/SO side? Have they finsihed with the London Review?

Any closure of either SOMC or POMC would have an affect on DMC as any work from a closed MC would need to be processed somewhere.rainbowwarrior72 wrote:Also whats the news on the PO/SO side?

Re: Midland Mail Centres Review - 90 day consultation!
That seems to be the most likely scenario long-term. Poor old PO will shut soon and some of the work and staff transferred to SO, but SO, having the reputation of being a "bad office" in everything from mech performance to staff attitude and morale, plus obsolete mechanisation (just to make it even worse) will most likely move to new premises after privatisation to serve the PO/SO postcodes.rainbowwarrior72 wrote:I had heard that they want to merge PO & SO The DMC would be left open on it's own well thats the rurmour
The new office (so the rumour goes) will likely be somewhere to the east of Portsmouth to be roughly equidistant from DMC in the west and the current Gatwick (or whatever replaces it by then) MC in the east.

Very hard to imagine an MC being built to cover SO/SP/PO/RH/BN. Whilst there are MCs that do cover large geographical areas, this would have in it some major towns and cities. DMC is safe.

All depends on the airport and the 2nd runway. I think there are going to be some major reshuffling if it happens Re PO/SO they could have the entire South Coast from BN/PO/SO/BH/DT as a viable super MC if built in the right location somewere in the midde with maybe a IVO in the mix as a subrainbowwarrior72 wrote:The rumour about Gatwick is they are thinking Godstone and merging with Croydon but the hitch would be SE1-28 it's over an hour from Croydonto Thamesmead at the mo

Re: Midland Mail Centres Review - 90 day consultation!
Can't see that working, there's no motorway in Dorset and very few dual carriageway roads outside of towns, deliveries would end up being probably an 08:00 start and 09:00 specials would probably fail too easily. If they are going to close all the existing MCs covering BN/PO/SO/BH/DT then I think likely groupings would be either BT/DT/SO/SP/PO and GU/RH/BN or BH/DT/SO/SP and PO/GU/RH/BNrainbowwarrior72 wrote:All depends on the airport and the 2nd runway.
