Severe Weather Tool Request download

Could anyone provide me with the, “Severe Weather Tool,” spreadsheet. I found this one on the this site but it dates back to 2010

Does anyone have a copy of the most recent Excel spreadsheet so I can use it to challenge my manager next time he sends us out in the snow? We were sent out on Friday in the worst weather conditions I have experienced in years. Kidderminster postmen were told if they went on delivery they would, “be risking their jobs” whereas Droitwich postmen were told to take out all their mail plus extra mail as one round is being absorbed. Rural deliveries were told to go out along with all other driving deliveries. Loads of postmen/women came into work Saturday complaining of injuries and accidents. I think every single postman/woman fell over at least once.
I live in Kidderminster and work in Droitwich. The snow was worse in Droitwich than it was in Kidderminster. I do not understand how the decision could be made in Kidderminster that if they went on delivery their jobs would be at risk but in Droitwich we were told to go out on bikes, vans and to do extra delivery to absorb a round. Is the, “Severe Weather Tool,” really that obscure or is our manager simply reckless and very irresponsible

Ultimately the decision to go out on delivery or stay out on delivery is yours.
If you feel the conditions are too dangerous and your health and safety is at risk you stop delivering.
No matter what any tool or download says.

You are your own H&S manager.
You make the decision.

our DIM fought and fought for us to not be sent out on Saturday but the Area manager said we had to go out and attempt the delivery when she finally made up her mind at 8:20 after a 90 minute conference call ( perhaps the Area Manager is the Tool )

most of my walk is on hills with sloping driveways / steps etc but part of it is on a main flat road.

I did'nt want to go out as I did'nt think it would be safe.

I did however go out and did what would normally take me 40 mins in 1hr 10mins and then I returned to the DO.

some refused to go out at all and some tried to take out all of their walks inc using trollies.

so how seriously can an Area Manager make a decision from miles away from the depot they are making the decision about!!

not sure as I was not in the office at the time, but as far as I know nothing happened to them as they made their own decision about their walk's

3 did'nt come in at all, not sure what will be said about that by the DIM / AM.

gonna be the same tomorrow / Tuesday at least here as it's been snowing non stop since 8:15 this morning.

As well as what happened to them, how are they going to cope on Monday?

It doesn't matter what the Area manager decides because ultimately the decision is yours to make.

I agree 100% with you and so did our DIM.

I only did what I did to make it a little bit easier for me when I can get out and complete my walk again.

it also meant I could clear a pensioner's driveway for him while I was out there, can't have old folk doing something like that when I could do easier and quicker for them.

clashcityrocker, I am guessing you’re not a postman. You obviously have had no experience of the pressure and stress a postman/woman has to endure when confronting a Royal Mail manager with the prospect of not completing a delivery. They attack you with endless amounts of threats and psychological manipulation from wilful delay of mail, quoting flexibility agreements to threatening with conduct action and carrying out procedures to assess if you meet the agreed speed requirements. I have had it all. The continuous onslaught is endless and soul destroying. Ever since the union took the stance that they, will let management go ahead with all changes and tell us to just work to our finishing time instead of fighting the changes like they once did to protect its members, we have had to endure daily bullying and psychological manipulation. Also we have to put up with endless bulling and harassment from peers who have time to complete their deliveries.

We were told on saturday that no pouches will be going out to our deliverys as the vans were being kept in .And we either stayed in the office and put our door to door together for next week .Or you could go out and do a bag .This was after fridays fiasco of going out in the shocking conditions waiting over half hour for my first bag to arrive at my bag drop and then having multiple text messages and phone calls that area health and safety rep has suspended all deliverys.Then when we got back to the office managers were incensed and that they had not been told of any such development and that we would have to make the hours up at a future date

You don't have to make the hours up unless you agrred and went home. You could have stayed in the office and went home at your finishing time and not owed them anything. Not sure what will happen if you did go home. Maybe someone can tell us if you have to pay the time back. I don't think you do. Don't think there is anything they can do if you refuse.

If you need advice on H&S matters why don't you contact your Area H&S rep?
But ultimately a spreadsheet isn't going to be a good substitute for actually growing a pair.

Well our H&S rep. is 21 and has been employed buy Royal Mail for 12 months and knows f**k all, our union rep. don't know anything either and instead of tying to find out things decides to argue with members instead. Area rep. does nothing. I usually phone the branch secretary when I need advise, which is on average I'd say twice a month, but even then I get nowhere with respect to being put under stress for not having time to complete deliveries. The whole setup is very very poor.

As to “growing some.” You would not believe the blazing rows I have had with managers over the years.

I agree with both of you...

Yes some Posties need to grow a pair, but unless you have a BLACK & WHITE statement to thrust into a managers face, they will say ANYTHING to get you to follow their instructions
