Sent home this morning as all deliveries suspended. Doesn't look good tomorrow. Mail should be light if the MCs can't get it too us. On the TV talking of the weather in this area being like this for the next week!

Sent home yesterday and today. Deliveries suspended. Yesterday was pretty bad but we could have got to main road places today. Loads of customers turning up at callers office complaining that we hadn't delivered. They'll just have to try and survive without e-bay for a couple of days. As there was hardly any posted mail in the system, our mail centre sent out every bit of junk they could find including National Trust membership packs which were for almost every house. Couldn't fit them in the frames

Rammed, and snow - bad combination - thanks to local council sending a bulk posting on a Saturday (as they always do), after discussion took where we were going.

Delivery itself not too bad as snow was light and only about 2 to 6 inches lying, still knackered though.

All rural rounds cancelled at 08.30. We had to wait an hour to see if the temperature would go up to decide if town rounds could be blitzed.

Temperature hovered around zero degrees, not much chance of improvement, so town rounds were subsequently cancelled.

Home James home!

The good old "take what you can manage at your own risk" card was played, pushing a heavy HCT through ~3" of refrozen compacted snow/ice was great fun with spikes (fortunately nothing close to an accident), took significantly longer than normal and what I deemed safe got me done on time... just!

we have reduced duty.

I went for 1/2 walk and prepare doors to doors for Monday option. Wellington is not good to wear for long walk.

Treat them as knockables, which they are and then take them only as your allocated quota of knockables ie. '20 pkt.s', 20 NT m'ship pacs - a couple of trays worth.
x no. of days to clear? well, it's not going to happen 'as things stand' but, same as the heaving frames, you can only do what you can in the time given..
and in these conditions I personally work my contracted hours.

Your packets.. they go to the driver who, if he has a problem with what you've handed back, should advise his manager.

Sorry but what are these so called 'knockables' and what are these so called limits, my office is that they don't care, the managers don't care, the planners don't have a clue so I don't understand a limit on them.

Are we saying that you are now allowed to only take the amount of attendance calls applicable to the number fo delivery points on the walk at a levels of 3%, which the planners use for the revision, even though packet numbers are going through the roof over the last 12 months or so?

Well that is certainly one way of coping with unachieveable walk sizes, but I cannot see how I could convince my lino to agree to this, when I usually have something in the ballpark of 50 attendance call items a day for a ~575 DP walk. :confused

In answer to IloveMYredTROLLEY - I'm 'only' a postman with access to this forum; I'm not the all-knowing fountain of knowledge re. RM, it's procedures, policies or practises.. as I've said before I'm 'just sayin' it as I see it'.

In Sept.'12 revisions were implemented in our office and an attendance call no. was written on each frame eg. '22' - I have no idea how that figure was arrived at.. .
Each frame therefore gets sorted, in this eg. 22, 'knockables'/attendance call items which means anything in excess goes to a 'packet driver' who takes out 'excess knockables' ( those items that cannot be successfully delivered without someone being home to accept ) together with his assigned packets. The packet driver needs to work with his manager to ensure he takes out only those items that he can successfully attempt to deliver in his contracted hours for that day.

DGP1 - I made no mention of limits?

'just sayin' it as I see it'
