My 3rd day working for RM and my first day delivering on my own. Apart from getting soaking wet and blown about I had a good day, finished at 11.45 too! :dance

I had the saturday from hell! Started off on this van share round which is quite easy and which i was covering as the normal postwoman had been released to do new frame labels. so took all my waterproofs out and everything and away we went. Got started on the first loop, half way through got a phone call from the manager telling me to come back to the office and take a differant round out a trolley duty as the bloke hadn't turned in. This round wasn't too bad so came back to the office loaded my trolley and out I went. Ended up getting out on this just gone 10am so the manager agreed to take a few flats off me about 10-15 mins work. It wasn't raining much when I got out but by the time I has done about 15 mins or so of this round it was really coming down. I had left my waterproof trousers in the back of the van that I had been in before so I plodded through the round slipped once landed in a puddle and I got back to the office and I had never been as cold in my life with the rain coming down and easterly wind blowing I was drenched. The manager then said thank you to me for my efforts (now that's rare!) and asked a bloke who was doing extra packets to give me a lift home and that bloke even had to unlock my bike for me because my hands were so cold I couldn't unlock it. About just gone 2pm I got home the mrs had to run the bath and it took me an hour or so to warm up with my hands and legs feeling very sore and still a bit sore now because of how cold it was.
I never want another day like that again and I hope that bloke gets sacked for not turning up which has happened before and all he had then was a few words spoken to him by the manager.
All in all a crap day of the highest order. :thumbdown

Intresting, someone does not turn up for work and it is their fault you did not look at the weather forcast and dress appropriately, plus leave your waterproof trousers in the original van? :left:

Nah I didn't say it was their fault. He hasn't turned up a few times so I personally feel he shouldn't be in the job. In any other employer if you just didn't turn up then you would be given a warning first time then if it happened again you would be sacked. So with yesterday I had to pick up the round he was doing after already starting my own.
I did look at the weather forecast and had all my waterproofs with me but just in the rush with swapping over rounds I left my waterproof trousers in the van.

It was the normal postwoman that does it. She had been released for the morning to cut out some frame labels but ended up having to stop doing that and do her round

In this shitty country, under this shitty government, working for these shitty employers, we are, all of us, a hairsbreadth away from being made jobless.
And having a good 'sick' record, counts for shyte.

I presume you are aware of all the details of his personal life that may be affecting his ability to get to work on time?

Showing up for work late we can all accept that, I have done it and many people have, sick record well when ya sick ya sick I guess but to not phone in and just not show up at all not just once but a few times then you shouldn't be in a job.
The manager did try to ring him just went straight to his voicemail and when I left to come home yesterday he still hadn't managed to get in touch with him.
I do wonder what the manager will do this time weather he will get rid of him or keep him on. I dont know.

And if his wife has had cancer and is struggling with the effects of surgery/chemotherapy?
Or he has a small child with a life threatening condition?
Or is caring for an elderly relative with Parkinson's or dementia?

You know nothing of his reality and consequently you are not in any position to comment.
With colleagues like you, we don't need managers. Why don't you start a petition in the office to have him sacked? :cuppa

There is no excuse to just not phone in even to say you have family problems at the end of the day it is your job and if your having problems then thats fine fair enough but there is no excuse to just not even call in and tell someone.

I lost my baby girl but I still called in and told someone at work what happened
I had my mrs who was in a wheelchair when she was pregnant with our son and I struggled to look after her and this one day it was really bad but I still called in
I woke up one day and could hardly move cause I was so unwell so I got my mrs to phone in for me.
I have also struggled with cancer at one stage of my life but I still called in

Its up to the manager what he does with him and if he has any of those problems then fair enough but doesn't take much to just give a phone call and like I said with any other employer you would get a warning first time and if it happened again then you would be gone.

You should have just left it at that.
He could be a useless tosser or he could have a legitimate reason or maybe you feel there is no legitimate reason,at the end of the day it's none of our business.

I'm sorry for all your trials and tribulations but why do you feel the need to judge others by your own standards?

Here are some words of wisdom that I heard as a young child and they still resonate with me today:

Now the world don't move to the beat of just one drum
What might be right for you, may not be right for some.
