I think it is a little... noteworthy... that the accounts have taken so long to be published. I understand some delay (there were some big projects that were not 100% sorted out by FY end) but it did seem very complex. I think the Finances are healthier than they were at the turn of the century, but that doesn't mean it's healthy at a benchmark level - in the past 12 months I've seen it become alot harder to justify expenditure on anything.
I'm fairly confident that no matter what happens, no PM would want to be known as the one who killed the Post Office and thus there is a future of some sort even if it will involve level of renationalisation (which is a possibility, however distant). We're not going the way of Enron or Arthur Andersen, thankfully but finances do seem very tough overall.
